  • Description

Aloha! We have a small 3 acre farm in beautiful Captain Cook. We are located in the heart of the Kona Coffee belt with amazing views of the ocean and the Mauna Loa volcano. Our farm is abundant in avocados, sapote, oranges, lemons, bananas, cherimoya, pomelo, guava, papaya, pineapple and of course Kona Coffee! We've also recently planted some new additions like kale, carrots, brussel sprouts, bell peppers, tomatoes, etc. We love for everyone to feel like family here and we often have community bonfires and do activities together. We have a dog, 2 sheep, 3 cats and a nice small Koi pond. We love to share our piece of paradise and always have a great time!

We are about 45 min south of the main Kona Airport.

Currently in need for November (2019), February (2020) and March (2020)

There is lots to learn about organic farming, building (with lava and bamboo from our property!), and making delicious meals from what grows here. We enjoy creativity, music, art, and creating a positive and fun social atmosphere to work and play in. We like to balance quiet time with social activities where we cook together and share stories/culture around the fire. We also rent through an online rental platform as well and there is lots to learn from everyone who stays here!

  • Help

We are continuing to work with the land and improve it. Our newest project involves building another outdoor toilet, shower, and kitchenette. We would like someone who loves the land as much as we do to help with landscaping, weeding, watering the gardens, and other projects. We also need help with the coffee - pruning, possibly picking (when in season), fertilizing and also planting more.

There is also some light housework, cleaning, and organizing as well as general yard work and beautification. Other tasks include turning over the rooms for paying guests and help with car rentals. Since the car rentals usually take place at the airport, you can sometimes take advantage of the opportunity for your own trips and errands depending on the schedule.

We believe 4 hours, 4 days a week is a nice balance for you to enjoy the land here as well as this amazing island.

  • Accommodation

We have a nice private Ohana about 100 yds from our main house. It's a bamboo home with one room, outdoor kitchenette, bathroom and outdoor shower. You also have a small private lanai that faces the sunset. It has a full size bed and everything you need to be comfortable including wifi and electricity.

We are flexible on sharing food, providing it, or a combination of the two. We go to town frequently and can provide rides or sometimes we have a car available depending on car rental schedule and availability. Public transport is nearby as well and hitch-hiking is very safe and common on the Big Island.

We are .7mi from the main road to the store and other services, at a 2,200 ft elevation. The weather here is generally warm during the day, sunny, with a little cloud cover some afternoons. It gets cooler at night. It's a great environment to work and be outdoors in. We're a short drive away from Kealakekua Bay, Two Step, Ho'okena and other fun places. We prefer to have a couple of Workawayers at a time who are over 23 yrs old, but this is not required.

    What else ...

Captain Cook is a great place to be if you love snorkeling, quiet afternoons by the beach, and a small-town feel. Kona is not too far away when you feel like exploring a little bit of nightlife and places like South Point and the Kilauea Volcano are easily accessible from here. Kealakekua Bay nearby is a beautiful place to explore and snorkel. You'll see dolphins, turtles, and beautiful tropical fish. The weather is perfect here, it's a little cooler than Kona and not as wet and rainy as the East side of the island. We pretty much have it all but we'll let you decide for yourself!
