Description
My name is Patricia, and I just bought my first home! I lived up in Haida Gwaii from 2018-2022. On a visit in the Spring, I saw the house and fell in love with the view. It is waterfront in Port Clements, with the most amazing sunsets! I went home and was able to buy this house.
My dream view came with a definite fixer-upper house with good bones. I would love to have some assistance with turning it into my dream home. In exchange, I will provide a great guestroom, a private washroom, a beautiful view, and ideas of adventures you can have on Haida Gwaii. The house is livable - I just want it to reach its full potential.
I love swimming in Yakoun Lake and River, agate hunting on East and North Beach, beach driving out to Rose Spit, foraging for mushrooms (I will be expanding my repertoire of plants to harvest this Autumn), fishing, dinner parties, local music shows, art, community events, and getting to know and build my community. Haida Gwaii is a beautiful place, where I feel a deep connection with the wonderful people I have had the privilege to meet, as well as the magical outdoors: soothing forests and endless beaches.Types of help and learning opportunities

I am born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, but have had the privilege of living and working in Uganda, South Africa, and Kenya. I love sharing experiences and learning from everyone I meet over food and adventures. I participate in community events and with organizations that bring artists and musicians to Haida Gwaii. I have deep respect for the Haida, their history, culture and art, and their increasing land and title rights. I am a guest on their unceded territory and am honoured to be able to call Haida Gwaii home.
Help
I have a list of home improvements I would like to get done, from drywall replacement to painting to fixing the drawers in the kitchen. There is also a more extensive renovation that will be happening on the ground floor. It is my hope to create my dream home, so Finola (cat) and myself can invite friends and family to visit. I am a complete newbie to home renovations and upgrades, but I am throwing myself all in. Skilled or more like me, I welcome any assistance I can get!

While I only speak English, I am open to people who speak any languages. I have lived in places where English was not the first language, and have always been successful in communication and building connection.Accommodation
Presently the accommodation will be in a guestroom on the main floor (second floor). It is a large bedroom, with a closet, large windows, and has a dedicated bathroom adjacent to it. It has a double bed, warm bedding, and will have lots of art, once it is painted.
I always make sure that my fridge is well stocked with the best produce on island. It is standard practice for me to shop at all the grocery stores on Island, as each offer something unique. Right now my work schedule is 5 pm to close at Axe and Anchor Pub, which is just down the street from the house, Wednesday to Saturday. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are days that I cook more meals, allowing me to eat before I head to work on work days. I often make flavourful dishes that leave leftovers to be enjoyed over the next few days. I eat pretty much everything, so I can accommodate many dietary restrictions. What else ...
Haida Gwaii does not have any public transportation, so having your own vehicle is recommended. I usually do not have a difficulty incorporating others plans with my own, so if you do not have your own vehicle, it is likely you will still be able to see all the islands have to offer.
Port Clements is pretty much in the middle of Graham Island, which is the principal, northern island. It is 30 minutes south from Masset and about 45 minutes to Skidegate/Daajing Giids. It is on the Masset Inlet, so doesn't have the same openness to big storms.
I have a cat named Finola. She is half mainecoon, half domestic long hair, and, according to my friends with strong allergies to cats, is hardly noticeable. If you are traveling with a pet, this will not be a good fit, as Finola prefers to be the only fluffy thing in the house.A little more information

Space for parking camper vans
There is space for smaller campers/motorhomes to park in the drive way. I believe there is a sani-dump down the street; although, you will still have access to the house facilities (there are 5 bathrooms, 2 of which require plumbing services presently).
