    HOSTING APRIL 2020
    THROUGH OCTOBER 2020
I am a busy, sociable, creative, optimistic mature female, continuing work on a small homestead with a variety of ongoing seasonal projects. This year some attention will be given to planting a small garden to yield a nice crop for fresh veggies.
As first hosting for the 2020 season, I am first looking to find those who have hands on renovation experience to get the outside area equipped for other workawayers in the months ahead. The outside will be the cooking, grilling and eating area under a big tent. As well, having those who can be creative with meals and what ingredients are on hand, and those who like to cook will be a part of the workawayer day. Cooking will be for about 4 to 5 people daily but can change.
I am flexible on your availability at this time as the season is just starting, although the first 2 weeks in April are now booked. Get in touch and we'll see what we can work out!

I live 6 miles outside of the groovy college town of New Paltz, and I am sometimes available to give rides to or from town where we shop and do laundry. If you are into rock climbing, hiking, and the mountains, check out Minnawaska Lake in New Paltz. You can also parachute from a small plane about 5 miles from here if you so desire this kind of thrill at Sky Dive the Ranch in Gardiner. From May through September, there are many local fairs and festivals, and free music and movies outdoors. Many coffee houses, bookstores and eateries in town, and a local theater for live performances.

The town of Woodstock is 25 miles away and you can catch a Trailways bus in New Paltz that takes you right to the center of town, the bus ticket is about $ 20.00 round trip. You can easily spend a day there in the swimming creek, (June-Sept) check out the art galleries, Flea Market, local movie theater, browse the many stores and eateries.
New York City is also a bus ride away, 90 miles and less than 2 hours from the New Paltz Bus depot on Trailways, and the round trip ticket is about $ 50.00.
My zip code is 12515, which will give you a better idea of the distance to different towns and activities, and to New York City.

There is much continuing work to be done outside this season, and I greatly welcome ideas and creative solutions to new and ongoing projects. I recycle and reuse just about everything I can find, or that finds its way to my yard. Found objects and materials for craftsman style fixes are my favorite. Vines, raw wood, rocks and stones found along the way. If you love to work with wood and have carpentry skills, this Workaway could be a good fit. Some of the labor will include laying pavers for a patio and walkways. Carpentry projects include putting up shelving, installing a door, putting down a barn floor, and some fencing. Outdoor house trim painting, mowing and the general outdoor work of the season as well.

A lot of the paving and landscape work will be fun and artistic, as I welcome ideas and designs as you leave your mark. I collect vintage red bricks from an old factory along the mighty Hudson River in NY. The shoreline is covered with thousands of washed up bricks that have been pounded by the Hudson for the last 50 or more years since the factory closed down. If you have an artistic flair, your creative brickwork is very welcome. I have collected a variety of pavers and stones of varying sizes to use in creative ways.

We work Monday to Thursday for 5 hours each day, with 3 consecutive days 'off' (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) which is your time to use as you please to explore or whatever you choose, as there is much recreation in this upstate area. In the past, this schedule was perfect for those wanting to see NYC for a long weekend, one Workawayer even connecting with other volunteers near NYC for a night or two before returning upstate.

Guests will be sleeping on twin beds in a private room with separate outside entrance. It is fully furnished with 2 beds, a dresser, shelving, a desk, a counter with coffee pot, microwave and a small table for eating. Next to that room is a shared bathroom and shower. There is also an outdoor shower with hot water which gets turned on in April. There is an outdoor tented, shaded seating for relaxing and eating meals.

This is a non smoking ranch style home in a small community cul de sac of 50 homes with families, kids, pets, retired folks and nice neighbors! There is wireless internet with a good connection. There is some carpentry work to be done in this room which will begin around April when the weather is warmer and the outdoor area for eating and showering is opened up for the season. I would consider a long term Workawayer, perhaps several weeks or longer, if it was a good fit for both of us.

This is a sober, sane and smoke free environment.
