We are a small, friendly, family-run campsite on the tiny, remote island of Bryher in the Isles of Scilly - about 30 miles off the coast of Cornwall.
With stunning ocean views, spacious fields and a friendly relaxed atmosphere, the Campsite is the perfect base for exploring the Isles of Scilly. We offer the chance for you to come and experience life on our little island, meeting people from all walks of life and exploring a truly unique (and little-known) part of the UK. You'll have plenty of time off to explore the islands and enjoy watersports, walking and time on Bryher's beautiful beaches.
The campsite is run by Jo (usually accompanied by toddler Ollie!) whilst Tom works on the neighbouring island and helps on the campsite evenings and weekends. We're helped by both sets of parents, who all live on the island too.
DIY and building projects
Bryher is a tiny island and totally different to living anywhere else in the UK! There's a really laid back, relaxed way of life and a small and friendly community. A truly unique island, Bryher is rugged and beautiful and a great place to experience a true sense of the Isles of Scilly, and to explore the archipelago.
On the island, you will meet guests and other seasonal staff from across the world, and a variety of different backgrounds.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
Host has indicated that they will pay at least the minimum hourly wage of their country for each hour worked and that accommodation will also be provided. They are asking for help with a business or business activity. Contact the host directly via the site messenger for more information and details about the wage provided. Any arrangements should be agreed in advance with your host.
We are looking for two friendly, helpful and welcoming people to help on the campsite in 2022. You could be a couple or friends, or we would be happy to welcome two separate Workawayers.
You'll meet and greet guests, deliver their luggage to and from the campsite using our tractor and trailer, and be their first and last experience of the campsite! You'll need to be physically fit as the job is a very manual one, involving lifting lots of camping luggage.
There will also be other manual work around the campsite, including cleaning of the shower block and shared facilities, hedge trimming, trimming, weeding, painting and general maintenance work.
The job itself is very much part-time, with daily hours varying from 2 - 4 hours per day, usually 6 days per week. Therefore, you will have plenty of time to explore the beautiful Isles of Scilly - an archipelago of five inhabited islands and hundreds of uninhabited islets, 30 miles off the coast of Cornwall.
Above all, you will need to be friendly, helpful, welcoming and a great people person, as you will be people's first and last impression of our campsite!
Please note you will need to:
- Have excellent spoken English
- Hold a full driving license (tractor driving experience useful but not essential)
- Be physically fit as the job is very manual
Accommodation is on the campsite. We would encourage you to bring your own tent, but may be able to supply one if you don't have your own.
We find our helpers really enjoy the social experience of living on the campsite for the season; you will become a part of people's holiday and very much a central part of our little family business.
We have an excellent shower block and will provide shower tokens. We can also supply cooking equipment and gas. As we have a young family we are unable to provide meals, but this is a paid position and we have an excellent island shop.
If you want to make extra money, there is usually plenty of casual work available around the island, from gardening to bar work, although we do ask that the campsite duties take priority as we will need you to meet specific boats each day.
