Description
Welcome Dear Human,
We are an off-grid, solar-powered permaculture and wellness center in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Santa Marta, Colombia. We have a food forest of cacao and other fruit trees and make our own delicious chocolate bars from our harvest. We build natural bamboo structures to host guests and retreats, make delicious food and do our best to live in harmony with Nature. Ours is a magical place with a little creek flowing through, lots of land to explore, birds, bees, howler monkeys and high-quality, kind people.
We are Jesse, Tala, Nacir and Nabu. Nabu and Nacir were born on the land, in our home, in the years 2019 and 2017, respectively. Jesse is from the USA and is responsible for the vision and development of the project and practices sound healing, guitar and qi gong/tai chi movement. Tala is a sound therapist, chef to our famous kitchen, and rockstar Mama among other things.
We are also Jose 'Poca Lucha', PinPin, Ledi, Moncho and Yojan - the sweat, blood and heart that make finca keep going strong!
Energy is always welcome to be with the kids, teaching, playing and just being with them, as well as tending to the garden and food forest, helping with construction projects, and keeping delicious food pumping out of the kitchen. We have good internet connection (starlink), and strive for living an authentic life full of love, integrity, kindess, prayer, and the medicine of Nature.
In addition to five hours of work, we ask for a 4-week minimum commitment. Shorter stays are possible for specialty skills such as website wizardry and media/marketing magic. Usually we have space for one volunteer, couple or family at a time. We are excited to meet some wonderful folk who align with our values and flow!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
A workaway stay here offers opportunities of learning about permaculture, chocolate making, natural design, introductions to music, sound, tai chi and other wellness practices and a place to practice your English or Spanish skills. Our finca is a place for exploring your Nature, both inner and outer. It is where growth and and peace may be found. You will be able to experience off-the-grid living on a chocolate farm in a somewhat remote yet safe area of Colombia. You will have the opportunity to know your self a little better, to know Nature a bit deeper and to practice holistic living where being, thinking and doing align as one.
Our local Colombian team speaks only Spanish, so it is a great place to practice the local language!
Our meals are mostly vegetarian, though we do eat meat as well, super yummy food and we even have homemade jun (honey kombucha)! No seed oils in the kitchen, just coconut oil, sesame oil, real butter, ghee, lard and tallow! We also use freshly ground flours and panela rather than sugar.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Our kids are 5 and 7, and are homeschooled. So being around them, sharing time and skills, is always a blessing for us all. Also, help in the kitchen and around the house is good. Getting in the garden and planting, weeding, feeding compost tea, planting seeds is always welcome!
If you are a film maker, we would love to work on a new video showing our place to potential guests.
Skilled carpenter/natural builder/inventor type stuff is great. Playground for kids, water slide, bike/skate ramps, furniture, bookcases..... there is always something to be making!
We require a minimum stay of 4 weeks, working 25 hours per week, 5 hours a day. If you could help us make promotional material, we would be open to a shorter stay of two weeks.
We provide three delicious meals per day on your working days. There will be food provided on your days off for you to prepare yourself.Languages spoken

Most often you will have a bed in our 6-person dorm. Often you will have the space to yourself.
What else ...
We are comfortably remote and a 3.5 km, or about a one hour walk from Minca. The hike to our Finca consists of a bit of an up hill climb, crossing of the Arimaca River, and during rain season the road is very muddy. However, it is a beautiful walk. You can always take a moto from Minca to us.
The beautiful cascada marinka is a 20 minute walk. Rio Arimaca and another small creek border our property, providing healing water to listen and lay in if you desire. There are all kinds of hiking possibilities, to different farms and places of interest such as Finca La Victoria (oldest Colombian coffee plantation), Los Pinos and Finca La Semilla.
THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO MAKE PARTY with substances. Commercial cigarettes, alcohol and drugs are NOT permitted. We are a family style retreat center project. Dance parties are cool. Music making and fires, yes!
While there IS a lot to see and experience, it is quite important to realize we are a place of peace and tranquility, located a good ways from the business of cities. It is a place to easily feel at home in Nature! To have good conversation, spend quality time with one's self and other kind people, to ponder, to create, to share good food and to simply BE..... this is the place we are always creating!A little more information
