    Description

Hello! My name is Alle and I’m an American residing in historic Aberdeen, surrounded by natural beauty! I recently obtained my MSc in psychology at Aberdeen and hopefully will advance to a doctorate in psychotherapy/counselling next. However, this spring and summer I will be traveling for work and hope to find someone who would like to stay in my beautifully renovated flat, located just 15 min walk from the beach, door to sand, and less than 10 minutes walk from the center, filled with cute cafes, the art gallery, and historic sites. IN exchange for full accommodation (rent/utilities), I need help with my two precious rescue dogs, Rizzo (F, 13 y.o., labrador mix) and Baloo (M, 4 y.o., greek shepherd dog).

This is ideal for a couple/person who LOVE dogs and with experience with large/rescue dogs (they are incredibly sweet and you can read more about them under their pet profiles). They require one long walk (45 min +) in the morning, an afternoon potty break (we have a private yard behind our building), an evening after dinner walk (20 min or so), and a before bed potty. That being said, they can be left at home for up to 9 hours (in a pinch!), and I do not expect your entire life to revolve around them or to be with them 24/7, I am a generally pretty lax dog owner as long as they are happy and healthy... the dogs have lived most of their lives as village dogs so they are also not very high maintenance. Of course I will provide their food and any vet expenses (although we only go in emergencies if I can't DIY a solution at home).

This would be ideally from mid-April until end of August 2026, I will be home end of June - early July for a few weeks, but can sleep on one of the couches, or you can take that time as a break! I also ask that the house is kept in good condition, cleaned, and maintained, and that you send regular updates. If there are issues, I will take care of them with the landlord. NB: The dogs love going on a adventures and can go on the bus or train, too!

This is a nice opportunity to slow down in a small seaside town, outside the highlands, and decompress. Life moves slowly, the sun is surprisingly out most days, and you can enjoy a peaceful way of life while also having access to creature comforts like cute local cafes and the theater. Great for remote workers or someone who is looking to slow down for a few months and have a stable place to stay for a while!

    Help

When I travel, I need help caring for my pets - feeding and walking them twice a day, buying more food when necessary (I pay of course), and making sure they’re happy, healthy, & getting love. See above!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have a large, renovated flat to yourself with separate rooms for bedroom (with clothes hanger, drawers, and double bed), living room (two large couches, electric fireplace, coffee table, etc.), and large kitchen (inc. dishwasher, washing machine, electric hob, full oven, etc., and kitchen table and chairs). Windows face North and South, so apartment receives a lot of natural sunlight with especially good sunrise views. Large private garden in the back, unused by most tenants.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are buses and trains connecting you to smaller seaside towns such as Stonehaven and the beautiful Dunnotar castle, you can go for a "dook" (dunk) in the north sea and then enjoy a sauna, explore historic Fittie village, or take a ferry up to Shetland or Orkney. The Caringorms are not far and there are many castles and villages to explore nearby!

    Profile photo of Baloo

    Baloo (3 years)

Our big goofy guy is still a puppy at heart. Regal looking in photos, but an absolute silly mess in reality. Loves other dogs, cuddles, and long walks/runs, but at home he's a couch potato. Generally good on a leash unless he sees something he wants, so requires a strong lead and awareness of surroundings to not be taken by surprise!

    Rizzo

My sweet older rescue gal is still a puppy at heart! Typical of her labrador side, she loves humans, cuddles, and any and all snacks (her favorite treat is mandarines). Well traveled, she has lived in the US, Russia, Greece, Georgia, and now Scotland! Although she's moving a bit slower these days, she loves long walks and hates to be left out of adventures.
