    Family-friendly farm stay in the Swiss countryside – garden, animals and sustainable living

    Hello!

    We are a family of five living in a beautiful old farmhouse in the Swiss countryside, in a small village between Lausanne, Fribourg, Bern and Geneva.

    We have three daughters aged 6, 8 and 10, a large vegetable garden, goats, chickens, cats and many projects around our home and land. We enjoy a simple lifestyle close to nature and are looking for someone who would like to share a little of our daily life this summer.

    When?

    From 4 July until 31 August 2026.

    You are welcome to stay:

    * a few days,
    * a few weeks,
    * or the entire period.

    What kind of help are we looking for?

    Most of the help is related to:

    * gardening and vegetable growing (only for our family, we do not sell vegetables);
    * caring for goats, chickens and cats;
    * watering and harvesting;
    * helping around the house;
    * small DIY projects;
    * general help on our small farm.

    You do not need experience in everything. We are happy to adapt the tasks according to your interests and abilities.

    Hours

    We usually ask around 3 hours of help per adult per day, 5 days a week.

    The schedule is flexible and can be adapted according to weather, projects and everyone’s preferences. It is perfectly possible to work a little more on some days and then enjoy additional free time afterwards.

    For couples and families, we are happy to discuss a flexible arrangement that works well for everyone.

    Families welcome

    Solo travellers, couples and families are all welcome.

    Children are very welcome here. Our daughters love meeting people from different countries and cultures.

    We have plenty of outdoor space, animals, gardens, forests and fields all around us, making this a wonderful place for children to explore nature.

    We look forward to hearing from you!

    Cultural exchange

    For us, Workaway is much more than exchanging help for accommodation and food. We genuinely enjoy meeting people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, and sharing our daily life with them.

    Guests can discover Swiss rural life, gardening, animal care, sustainable living, home-grown food and life in a small countryside village.

    We also enjoy sharing our knowledge and interests. Laure is a Montessori-trained teacher with many years of experience in alternative education and homeschooling, and we are always happy to exchange ideas about education, child development and learning.

    Homeschooling and worldschooling families are especially welcome.

    Whenever possible, we also enjoy taking our guests along on outings and excursions. We regularly explore different parts of Switzerland, visit beautiful places, go swimming in lakes, discover local festivals and enjoy nature together.

    Laurent knows the Swiss mountains very well and is always happy to share his passion for hiking. Depending on the season and everyone’s experience, guests may have the opportunity to join us for mountain hikes, alpine walks or even a via ferrata.

    We are equally curious to learn from our guests and love sharing stories, traditions, recipes, languages and experiences from around the world.

    What we offer

    We are not only looking for help—we enjoy sharing experiences, ideas, meals and conversations.

    This place may suit you if you enjoy:

    * nature and gardening;
    * animals;
    * sustainable living;
    * family life;
    * simple countryside living;
    * learning practical skills.

    Whether you stay for a few days or for several weeks, we would be delighted to welcome you and share our little corner of Switzerland.

    Accommodation

    Accommodation

    You will stay in a large private space of approximately 40 square metres with its own independent entrance directly from the garden, separate from the family’s main living area.

    The accommodation includes:

    * comfortable mattresses;
    * a table and seating area;
    * storage space;
    * a small kitchenette with cooking facilities.

    The accommodation is a single open room, similar to a simple studio, and can comfortably accommodate:

    * one traveller;
    * a couple;
    * or a family with up to two children.

    The space includes:

    * sleeping area(s);
    * table and chairs;
    * storage space;
    * cooking stove and oven;
    * basic cookware and tableware;
    * kettle for tea and coffee;
    * everything needed to prepare simple meals independently.

    The studio does not currently have running water. However, guests can easily cook, wash dishes and take care of daily needs using water containers provided in the accommodation.

    The family bathroom, shower and toilets are available in the main house and can be accessed easily through the adjoining barn.

    The accommodation offers a good balance between privacy and connection with family life, allowing guests to enjoy their own independent space while still being part of the daily life of the farm.

    Food

    Accommodation and food are provided.

    We mostly eat organic food and home-grown vegetables from the garden. Our diet is largely vegetarian, although we occasionally eat meat.

    We enjoy sharing meals together but also respect everyone’s privacy and independence.
