    Description

We are looking for workawayers so that our daughters can practice conversation in English. Preferably native speakers.
We provide private room, bathroom shared with the girls and full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner). We live in a house, with pool and garden.
We live in a beach town of 5000 inhabitants, on the Costa Dorada of Tarragona. One hour and half south Barcelona. We have two daughters, Martina aged 17 and Adriana aged 13. We also have a dog named Dropa.
Raimon (aged 48) is engineer and has his professional office in the family home. Marina (aged 43) is pharmacist and work in her own business in the village. We like hiking, play paddle (all except Martina) and music (Raimon plays the violin, Marina and Martina the saxophone and Adriana the clarinet).
Note we are a catalan family: our main language is catalan, the volunteer must communicate always in English to the children. The parents can speak spanish or english with the volunteer and children change from a language to another when talking to mum, dad or the volunteer.
We are looking for an enthusiast and open-minded friendly person who likes discovering other cultures and enjoys spending time with teenagers. We ask for a 1-2 hours a day of English class with the girls. The rest of the time, you can be on your own or spend time with the girls. We rather prefer an active person who likes outdoors activities and does not stay in bed until lunchtime missing the wonderful nature we have around!
If you have some experience teaching English this is a plus.
Help at home is optional, if you like to do some simple housework tasks like laundry or cooking....Up to you!
We will be glad to welcome you into our home and family, a room is available for you. We want you to be comfortable, like a true member of the family.
You will have lot of free time to explore the area, enjoy the beaches we have nearby and can go sightseeing around.

    We offer full board.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our village is close to Port Aventura and Tarragona. Barcelona is a little further away but not much. You can go by train to the 3 sites mentioned. We live in a house on the outskirts of town. There is free public transport with different destinations.
Some tips on how we can make this a successful and enriching experience :
    1. Be open and communicate. Don't stay alone the full day locked out in your room. If you are tired and want to rest or are not feeling well please inform us, otherwise we don’t know if you are bored or what is going on. When we offer you to participate in activities you can either accept or say no, up to you, don’t feel forced to be with us in your spare time. We understand you are autonomous and you are able to take care of yourself. Be aware that it might take some time to get used to each other, not just for you but also for us and our children. In case you do not get along with us or there’s an issue that bothers please talk to us.
    2. Attend the family meals. Food brings people together – it’s a great social lubricant across cultures. Try to be at home for the meals and help set the table or do the dishes. It’s better to discuss culinary preferences or dietary restrictions rather than just don’t eat what we cook. If you know how to cook, feel free to prepare something from your home country.
    3. Respect the schedule. Try to respect our schedules. If you are not home for meals or activities please let us know ahead of time. Even though we are not your parents, we still worry about you.
    4. Accept the differences. You will probably have to get used to different food, to new ways of folding laundry, and to house rules that are not the same as back home. Remember: different, new, and not the same don’t have to mean bad. Things are done in other ways around the world and as long as everything works, this is a good thing and part of the learning experience.
    5. Keep your room clean please.
    6. Do not invite friends.

Day of the farewell of our American guest
This is our house when we have just built it.
All our house is covered by solar panels (also the balcony). We produce more energy than we consume.
A part of the leisure area. Raimon and Adriana great fans!
Our town is between the sea and the mountains
One of our excursions. We climb the mountain and we have the view of our town and the sea. (This photo is from two years ago, Dropa was a puppy).
Pool time!
Adriana and Dropa. Best friends!
This winter we traveled to Ireland. Here Martina on our visit to Belfast.
