Description
ATTENTION WORKAWAYERS: We're looking for long, medium and short term Workawayers to help with our actions.
We are in need of up to 4 helpers that can start as soon as possible. MINIMUM STAY - 3 WEEKS.
Welcome to our hotel, a spectacular period Victorian construction that catches the eye of passers-by on a corner of central San José. This grand old wooden structure lent itself perfectly in its former life as a very successful youth hostel. Over the years, this guesthouse gained recognition from likes of TripAdvisor and others with multiple certificates of excellence to its name due to its high customer feedback.
Now the business has transformed into a Bed & Breakfast (Half Board Hotel), with the ambition of retaining such awards in its new form. Our customer's experience will be key to this, and so we are looking for people to help build a reputation for treating the guests in a friendly, warm and accommodating manner that befits the atmosphere of a homely guesthouse.
The typical volunteer experience includes helping at the reception, taking in guests, farewelling them, taking payments, and offering guests a wonderful experience. Being able to anticipate and react to guest needs is an important part of the hotel business, so people who can think outside of the box are very welcome here.
We are looking for energetic people who like to really like to find their way through contribution here, there is a lot of potential everywhere you look, so those who would genuinely get the most out of this experience would be the sort of person who wants to share some of their vision, someone who could positively impose themselves through their creativity and ideas to the journey of transfomation here.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As we are in the capital of San José, you will be living in the stand-out city and cultural heart of Costa Rica. Understandably, most tourists tend to pass through San José on their way to the beautiful coasts , but if you stay here you will have to opportunity to do what many others don't and really immerse yourself into the experience of what it is like to live more like a local here in 'Chepe'.
Within the hotel you will have the opportunity to interact with the full-time staff here who are very friendly native Spanish speakers, as well as other locals of San José who drop by on business with the hotel. This makes for a great cultural exchange to take advantage of; especially if you are motivated to learn Spanish through immersion. This is entirely optional, and a decent command of English is all that is required to help out here.
Although the shifts are set for the four days of work, in return you will have three days off to make full use of and go to explore!Help
There will be a variety of tasks that you may find yourself doing at the moment, so expect yourself to move from one task to another during the day. It could be hotel reception work tending to guest needs, helping with the full-time staff who clean, cook and serve the guests, as well as anything from housekeeping, general up-keep to unexpected odd-jobs /ad-hock tasks.

Workawayers will share their accommodation with the other volunteers who happen to be here at the same time. This is a shared room with four beds (not bunks, bedding provided), there is an adjacent bathroom with hot shower.
No meals provided to volunteers. There is a supermarket and restaurants nearby.
There is a small shared kitchen space with a set of gas hobs for cooking, as well as a sink, fridge, coffee maker and some shelf space to store your food. There is a couch and small dining table also.
There is also a lounge room just off the reception desk where you can congregate and make a more cozy atmosphere for your stay here. This is also the hotels common area so there will be guest interaction here.
It should be stressed that there are no washing machines on the premises, you can pay to have your clothes washed at one of the lavanderias in town (we have some great suggestions!). You can hand wash your clothes in the typical latin american outdoor sink, and air dry them (BYO detergent).
The hotel has controlled access, and is in a very safe part of San José.
Please message our former Workawayers if you wish. They can be reached via the feedback section. What else ...
Within walking distance is a large park, restaurants, supermarket, and the center of San José city. There are hundreds of stores so practically anything you might possibly need is 20 minutes away. We encourage exploration, and to share what you find with other volunteers and guests.
We are located in a 100 year old Victorian building, so as with all old houses, not everything is brand new and sometimes things go wrong. But we are constantly making changes to keep on top of this. We have various plans to offer better amenities here, these improvements are always aided by constructive feedback received from volunteers and guests alike.
Additionally, we aim to be more environmentally thoughtful when it comes to water and energy consumption, so there is a schedule in place for hot water, a few hours in the morning and a few hours at night. In addition, we make full use of all of the windows for natural light instead of relying on too many lights being switched on.
Yes, you can drink the tap water here.A little more information
