Description
Our family consists of two parents, Chiara 61, a piano teacher, Alberto 63, a former researcher agronomist and four kids, Francesco 30, Fabio 28, Gabriele 24 and Lorenzo 18.
Founded in 1962, this is a family farm mainly focused on fruit production. If you are interested in coming between July and November, you will experience the harvest period. Your precious help will be directed towards some easy tasks mainly to help the family with the produce for our own consumption.
The farm is located 70 km east of the beautiful Venice and 12 km from Lignano, a lively summer resorts of the Adriatic Riviera, renowned for its fine sand full of beach volley fields. Just outside the farm runs Tagliamento, a beautiful river and a perfect opportunity for those who love bathing and diving in fresh waters during hot summer days.
If interested in orchards, you will have the chance to learn every aspect of running and maintaining an innovative orchard from planting to harvest depending on which season you come. If not, just join a mix of rural life in the morning and the beautiful surrounding for the rest of the day. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
If you like it, you have the chance to learn every aspect of running and maintaining an innovative orchard from planting to harvest depending on which season you come. We do not need you to be a farm expert anyway. If you prefer just helping with harvesting and experience the beatiful landscape of Friuli, from water sports to biking and hiking, you have a perfect location to do it.

Help
Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience what it means to run a fruit farm, which requires daily attention to tree health and careful planning of all operations.
Over the last 10 years, we have introduced modern pedestrian orchards based on multi-leader tree training systems, along with mechanical pruning techniques developed and tested at the Agrarian Institute of San Michele all’Adige (Trento).
In these orchards (currently covering about 30% of our farm), all tasks — from pruning to harvesting — can be carried out from the ground, without the need for ladders or platforms.
Seasonal activities include:
From March to October:
- Training of young trees
- Fruit thinning (May to July)
- Summer pruning (manual and mechanical)
- Tree training
- Irrigation and nutrition management
From mid-July to mid-December:
- Fruit harvesting
- Post-harvest pruning (manual and mechanical)
- Tree training
- Opening of hail protection nets
Tasks usually include:
- Picking fruits
- Sorting and basic handling of the harvest
- Light outdoor tasks related to farm activities
We are flexible and open: if you have special interests or skills (for example cooking, DIY, or other activities), you are welcome to share them — we really enjoy cultural exchange and learning from each other.
For us, hosting is not just about work, but also about spending time together, sharing meals and experiences. -

Accommodation
We have plenty of room in our country house with private bedroom and common bathroom. We will buy the food and provide an extra kitchen for the youth (our sons, their friends and you of course). A bike for transportation and for exploring the area will be available. There are plenty of buses that will take you to Lignano in 20 minutes or trains to Venice or Trieste (1 hour).

What else ...
Every year many researchers, advisors and growers visit our farm to see innovative techniques in the flesh. Several students of the Istituto Agrario of S. Michele, now Fondazione E. Mach, have spent one month of practice at the farm to complete their formation.
