  • Description

    Description

Our family consists of two parents, Chiara 53, a piano teacher, Alberto 55, a researcher agronomist and four kids, Francesco 22, Fabio 20, Gabriele 16 and Lorenzo 10.
Founded in 1962, this is a family farm mainly focused on fruit production. Given the great variety of fruits, harvesting takes about five months, from July to late November. The farm is located 70 km east of the beatiful Venice and 12 km from Lignano, a lively summer resorts of the Adriatic Riviera, renowned for its fine sand full of beach volley fields. Just outside the farm runs Tagliamento, a beatiful river and a perfect opportunity for those who love bathing and diving in fresh waters during hot summer days.
If interested in orchards, you will have the chance to learn every aspect of running and maintaining an innovative orchard from planting to harvest depending on which season you come. If not, just join a mix of rural life in the morning and the beautiful surrounding for the rest of the day.

If you like it, you have the chance to learn every aspect of running and maintaining an innovative orchard from planting to harvest depending on which season you come. We do not need you to be a farm expert anyway. If you prefer just helping with harvesting and experience the beatiful landscape of Friuli, from water sports to biking and hiking, you have a perfect location to do it.

Workawayers can share the experience of running a fruit farm, that requires daily monitoring of tree health and planning all operations. In the last 5 years we introduced new pedestrian orchards based on the latest multi leader tree training forms and the mechanical pruning tested at the Agrarian Institute of S. Michele all’Adige (TN) in Trento. In such orchards (at present 15% of the farm) all operations, from pruning to harvest, can be performed from the ground without using platforms or ladders.
From mid May to mid July: fruit removal (thinning), summer hand pruning and mechanical pruning, tree training, irrigation and nutrition management of fruit trees, hail net covering.
From mid July to mid December: fruit harvest, post-harvest pruning and mechanical pruning, tree training, hail net opening.

    What else ...

Every year many researchers and advisors visit our farm to see innovative techniques in the flesh. Several students of the Istituto Agrario of S. Michele, now Fondazione E. Mach, have spent one month of practice at the farm to complete their formation.
