    Description

Set in the beautiful St Croix River Valley of Wisconsin, we are a non-profit rural community of about 40 people, living and working with people with disabilities. Together, we run; an organic dairy farm, large organic garden and orchard, bakery, wood-shop and craft shops. In teamwork and mutual support, we enjoy life together. A spirit of inclusion and friendship is paramount and international volunteers enrich everyone’s experience of the world. There is plenty of opportunity to cycle, hike and swim in nature here and to be welcomed in our friendly little river town 5 miles away, but we are also only an hour from Minneapolis/St Paul, the capitol of Minnesota with all its city life. With new friends, you can bathe in a waterfall, canoe an unspoiled river while eagles fly overhead, sled behind a snowmobile and still go visit the Mall of America if you like! Volunteers share a family- style house with long term volunteer families and people with disabilities and are welcomed, and looked out for, as a member of the household. Our life is filled with the satisfaction of teamwork, simple fun, care for each other, and a creative, humorous outlook. We are a happy group who like to get things done! Every person really counts and the community is truly changed by every individual that touches it.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is an amazing place! It is idealistic, practical, hard-working, and fun. You really can make a difference in the world right here. We offer a beautiful backdrop in the rolling farmland and little waterfall towns of Northwest Wisconsin and a chance to meet a real America of tractor pulls, drive-in burger joints, ice fishing, candlelit skiing, and kayaking. We are happy to teach you a wide range of skills and you enrich us all with your friendship as our lives all broaden with cultural insight

While here, volunteers are matched with the community’s needs and really become part of the whole place. You can help out with things as diverse as gardening, building, teaching, crafts, or arranging social activities. It is a great place to learn about, and try your hand and practical skills like organic agriculture, baking, processing, arts, and construction. We value experience and accommodate specific skills but also really welcome enthusiastic volunteers with no experience at all. Attitude is everything.

    Accommodation

Volunteers share one of our family- style houses with long term volunteer families and people with disabilities and are welcomed, and looked out for, as a member of the household. You have your own bedroom. Your house might include children or pets (we consider this in our match with you!) and each has a different style and character. Every house is within walking distance of the farm and is a cozy and welcoming place. All meals are included family-style and are primarily organic and from our own farm.

As an inclusive community we foster an environment which is respectful, friendly and tolerant. Positivity, even in challenging weather, is a value we treasure! Everyone here is a volunteer and we all try to focus on “we” not “me”, working out our needs and requests on a daily basis. Volunteers are expected to immerse in our lifestyle and give it their all, knowing that there is a whole community looking out for them and helping them have a wonderful and satisfying experience.
