Description
The house is located in a small valley between beautiful vineyards and lots of nature, in the heart of the Roero region, Piedmont, northern Italy. The village center is a short walk from the house, with lovely little shops, a huge historical church, a bakery and a couple of bars that are open most of the week and a small grocery shop with great local and global products. On Sundays there is a farmers market next to the church where local farmers offer their organic (and affordable) produce, a cheese truck from a local dairy and occasionally there are village parties who welcome everyone. In addition, there are dozens of unique wine makers in a small radius, who love to share the fruits of their hard work. On clear days you can also see the Alps from the hill behind the house.
You will get a room for yourself, amazing food from around the world (we cook from scratch every day and love eating together ) plus the kitchen is stocked with snacks and fresh produce from our garden. We would love to accommodate any needs you have and make you feel "home away from home" while respecting your privacy and capacity for work and socialization.
The work will include cutting the grass from time to time, working in the garden, helping us with a bit of easy design and beautification of the other house, organising the courtyard and stocking wood for the fireplace, before the winter comes. We have a few garages filled with new and old tools of all sorts and we are happy to teach you how to use them to reduce any labor or stress around the property and ensure the work is done quickly and easily so you can enjoy your time and explore the area.
We reuse, recycle and refurbish old materials into new usable and sustainable products to include in our projects like furniture, design and general tools - we are happy to share our knowledge and vision of zero waste culture and sustainability.
Working hours shouldn't be more than 5 hours a day, 5 days a week - but if you feel like doing extra, it is always appreciated. Some days are filled with random little projects around the house that we all do together and some days we rest and eat and talk all day - mainly depending on the weather.
On the property we have a huge smart dog who is super friendly but he needs to get used to new people and loves to play a lot (there is no requirement to take care of him whatsoever! Only if you feel like playing with a big fluffy thing). If you are not a dog person or if you are afraid of dogs, this may not be comfortable for you as he is a part of our household, our daily life and is very sensitive to people.
We often go on day long trips to the mountains and travel around Piedmont by car, we would love to have you join us and experience our favorite places or explore new places with us. We have lots of local friends with unique hobbies and businesses, who love to meet new people and socialize, you will not feel alone unless you wish to. In addition, we go between cities in our area for projects and work, you can join us for a ride and explore these places alone while we are there and come back home with us.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a multicultural household - an Italian doctor for agronomy who is a mountaineer and knows the Alps like his own backyard, a creative Colombian pastry chef specializing in local and global sweets with a passion for astronomy and a Ukrainian techy obsessed with Italian history. In addition, we have extremely diverse friend groups around us who we meet often, from local farmers and wine makers to Engineers and Scientists, local Artists, dog trainers for search & rescue and all the way to local anarchist communities in Piedmont.
We love learning about new cultures, countries and perspectives - especially from people who can share a unique or personal point of view about where they come from.Help

We all live together in the large main house. You will get a clean private room looking over the garden, rarely you might share it with one more volunteer but it is not mandatory. We have a shared kitchen that is fully stocked and we go shopping often - in addition, the garage is full of sauces, jams and other preserved food we make at home from our garden. We cook at least once a day (mainly dinner) and enjoy eating all together when times allow, but you are free to use the kitchen anytime you need, we can also allocate a cabinet for your food if you prefer.
There's a big bathroom with a bathtub, a shower, a bidet and a laundry room that you are free to use anytime you need.
In addition there's a big patio, a big garden and a huge courtyard where you are more than welcome to create your own little private space.
The kitchen is fully stocked with all sorts of food, fresh produce and ingredients, we also have a garage full of sauces, pickles and jams. We go shopping at least once a week and the guests are welcome to join us and choose whatever they need or just share a list with us and we will make sure to purchase everything. We usually have dinner together and the rest of the day the kitchen is available for cooking or snacking - we want the guests to feel at home and eat whatever and whenever they feel like it <3What else ...
We have a big smart dog living with us, he is well trained and all three of us are on top of his discipline BUT - if you are not a dog person, this might not be comfortable for you as he is a part of the household and he is very sensitive to people.

Nickel (2 years)
Nickel is a big smart dog who is very sensitive to people so he needs a day or two to get used to you. All three of us are working daily to keep him disciplined and well trained.
He is not allowed in the bedrooms, the bathroom or on any of the furniture - and he knows it!
He welcomes bribes in forms of food and back scratches and loves playing in the garden and courtyard.
10/10 alarm system - highly recommend
