Description
I'm Tara, mother to three, youngest boy aged 13 and two adult kids - only Tara and Fiach 13 are living in the home fulltime. We have two dogs, Phoebe (Lurcher aged 10) and Achill (Collie 3 years) and Kitsi the cat aged 18 months.
I need a pet sitter for short breaks from time to time and we are open to longer stays to help with animals and around the house and garden. We live in a 3 bed house in a rural area by the coast. You can walk to the village, courtmacsherry, with shop, pubs and restaurants in a few minutes.
We have a couple of bikes you can borrow if you like to see the local area.
It is good to understand that the experience is what you make of it. You will have plenty of free time but the important thing is you love animals, enjoy walking and being outdoors and are responsible. It helps if you are independent, sociable and adventurous enough to find your way around and meet people.
Achill the collie is an anxious boy and needs lots of exercise and experience with dogs is preferred.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying with us is a chance to enjoy a memorable experience in a warm and friendly community set in a very pretty part of the country. You’ll get to experience everyday local life, meet neighbours, and enjoy the slower rhythm of living close to nature. For animal lovers, this is also a great opportunity to learn more about dog behaviour and care, especially working with a sensitive rescue collie. Depending on your interests, there may be opportunities to explore local culture, heritage, and nature walks, as well as to learn more about rural community life.
Locally we have a rowing club with gym, Qigong and Tai Chi, yoga classes weekly, a beach sauna on friday mornings, a community shop and bookshop and some nice cafes.

Help
We would love a hand with some day-to-day tasks, mainly around caring for our pets and keeping the house running smoothly. This includes feeding the dogs, taking them for walks, giving them attention and playtime, and helping to keep the house clean and tidy.
We have two dogs. One of them, Achill the collie, is a little anxious, especially around men. He needs some patience and time to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, he’s very sweet and loyal. The other dog Phoebe is very relaxed. Both love walks and company. We also have a cat who is independent but enjoys having people around.
Between October and December 2025, I’ll be away for about five weekends (Friday to Sunday), so I especially need someone who is happy to stay in the house during those times to mind the pets. They are happiest with company, so it’s important to have someone reliable who enjoys spending time with animals.

Achill (3 years)
Achill is a beautiful collie with a gentle but sensitive nature. Like many collies, he’s intelligent and alert, and he bonds closely once he feels safe. He can be quite anxious around new people, especially men, and it takes him a little while to build trust. With patience, calmness, and kindness, he relaxes and shows his affectionate side. He loves walks, playtime, catching the ball and being part of whatever’s going on.

I was helping Tare looking after her own three children and the students from abroad for three weeks. (6 boys:-) It was a really culutral exchange.
Tara and her children lives probably on one of the nicest places you can live in Ireland, just 100 meter from the beach:-)
