Description
We are Frannie (Virginia, USA) and Cristobal (Puerto Aysen, Chile) and we live just 5km outside of the village of Puerto Guadal with our 2 dogs Yaqui (5 years) and. Papaya (13 years). We live on half a hectare of land on the shore of Lake General Carrera, South America's second largest lake. Our property has a garden and greenhouse where we grow herbs, flowers, and vegetables and we also rent out our guest house to tourists during the summer season.
Our home is located in a rural area, approximately 5 hours by public bus from Coyhaique. There are a few shops where you can get everything you need in Puerto Guadal as well as a hardware store, gas station, mechanic, and health post. There is *no* pharmacy, bank, or hospital in Puerto Guadal.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Enjoy the natural beauty of the lake, local waterfall, and rugged trails. Spend a few weeks living in a tranquil and remote Patagonian village.
When not helping on the property, you can spend time walking along the beach, enjoying the mountain views, visiting nearby hiking trails, kayaking on the lake, getting to know the local town, and learning more about the Patagonian way of life.
Help
We often need help in the garden (weeding, transplanting, harvesting flowers, watering), cleaning our cabin that we rent to tourists during the summer, housesitting and taking care of our 2 dogs (Yaqui and Papaya), and construction and carpentry projects. Our works needs vary depending throughout the season!
*Upcoming construction help is needed for February 2026!
Pet Sitting:
Papaya is an old gal and has spurts of energy but is pretty happy sleeping most of day. She can be a little cranky especially when sleeping so care must be taken no to disturb her! Yaqui spends more time outside when the weather is nice and loves to play on the beach.

*House sitters will sleep in our bedroom. Sheets and linens will be provided and the dogs sleep on their own beds inside the house. The house is heated by a wood fire stove and has excellent starlink internet connection if you would like to work remotely.
