  • Description

    Hi! Hola! Bonjour!
We are Amira and Max , from Quebec, Canada. With the pandemic we lost our jobs and decided to get started on our life project of building a playful, comfortable and unique space in Paso del Mango, a wonderful area in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta...with, you guessed it, lots of mango trees!

Our vision is to offer a playful place inspired by the circus and circus arts, with domes, huts, climbing structures, swing structures, all kinds of different spaces while also working with the land and space as much as possible, using what is given to us already to inspire our ideas.

We need LOTS of help! We jumped into this with a clear idea of where we want to be and figuring out how to get there has been, and still is, a huge learning experience. Since we started in Nov. 2020, we have learned so much and are still learning every day (how to install a roof, how to make windows, how to use a machete - kind of) and we still have so much to learn.

Important details: we don't have running water or electricity on the land yet. There are rivers nearby and we make sure to have giant tubs of clean water for general use (bucket showers, cooking, etc.) and we have battery/rechargeable powered lamps and candles. There is really good data service though, so if you get yourself a sim card with data, you're set on that aspect.

That's a bit about us - tell us a bit about yourself and come join the adventure!

We are working with people from the area to develop our project. Staying and getting involved in the projects at Amakama will give you the chance to practice your Spanish with them and generally immerse yourself in the Sierra Nevada culture.

  • Help

We need lots of help with pretty much everything: landscaping, electricity, plumbing, permaculture, land design, rain collection system, natural grey water filter system, building the other structures and so much more that we probably can't even think of at the moment.
Depending where we are in our project, we would also need help building our outdoor kitchen, painting the little house already on the land, building compost toilets and designing the bathroom area, showers, and more.

We are really open to exploring different building-types if you know how to make them and want to lead a project too! We're looking at different types of domes, earthship-inspired structures, yurts, other natural-material based structures, you have an idea, try us out!

    What else ...

We are about 45 minutes from Santa Marta, the closest big city. You can get there by moto-taxi and bus easily.
We are in the Sierra Nevada region, specifically in Paso del Mango where you can go on hikes, treks, find waterfalls, rivers, cacao farms, a natural reserve nearby and you can also enjoy the coast, less than 1 hour away - beaches, national parks, jungle hikes, so much to do in the area!
