    Description

Welcome to our stone built, two storey 200year old farm house with 7 acres of woodlands, river, pond, vegetable garden with a polytunnel and fruit trees in our garden. We also have two dogs, Watson and Lola to keep us company too. Our two college going children live here sometimes also!

In the field beside our home is a self contained wood cabin where you will be living while you stay with us. Its really comfortable, bright and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. There is a porch area where you can sit out and also a picnic bench for dining al fresco. You are surrounded by a new woodland of indigenous trees where a host of birds live.
Of course there is the river at the front of our house which is lovely to swim in during the summer and on cooler evenings the sauna really comes into it own as you can watch the river wild life as you enjoy sitting in the heat.

The cabin is ideal for a couple or two friends travelling together, preferably with a car as there is no public transport service accessible to the cabin however there are bus and train options about 5 minutes drive from the cabin.

As both of us work full time you will be helping us a bit independently but we are always around in the afternoons and weekends, as there is always something to do in the garden and polytunnel. We welcome you to join us for some meals also.

We also really enjoy spending time exploring the walks and hikes around Sligo at the weekends and evenings and you would be very welcome to join us. There are also plenty of cultural and creative events that take place in and around Sligo that we like to participate in. Over the summer there are music festivals, food festivals and a general buzz of activity around the county.

We grow most of our own vegetables and have an abundance of fruit and berry trees which we grow without using chemicals, pesticides or artificial fertilisers.

You would be helping us with sowing, planting and maintaining of the vegetable area as well as pruning, weeding and feeding the beds. We will share the knowledge we have gained over the years growing naturally and in tune with nature.
Harvesting and preserving the produce is also an activity that we would require your help for and we will show you how we do this in our kitchen.

As we have our own woods you would be invited to help with the collection and stacking of logs.
We would also need help with clearing of some brambles in the woods and also some clearing of pond grass to help our frogs and minnows continue to live and breed successfully there. There are also plenty of dragon flys hovering around too.
On wet days there are some indoor tasks such as some small light painting tasks and cleaning of cupboards.
We would ask for 4/5 hours of help a day, four/five days a week (20hrs a week). Its up to you what days you wish to help us so that you can take advantage of events or travel plans that suit you.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As both myself and Niall have travelled extensively we are always interested in meeting and talking with people from different countries and cultures.
You would learn about growing vegetables without the use of chemicals, and also harvesting and preserving them.
As we live in rural Ireland with plenty of space and nature surrounding us, you are free to walk along the path ways created in the woodlands. There is also the river and sauna for an added experience and a great way of relaxing after some physical help in the garden.
We are close to Sligo town with great traditional pubs and music. There are plenty of music and food festivals on during the summer months show casing the talents of Sligo.
Also there is access to great beaches, mountains and woodlands which are ideal for hiking and walks which we enjoy doing with our dogs.
Sligo is also known for its megalithic tombs and historical sites which are scattered around the county.
Sligo is also a great destination for exploring other counties adjoining us such as Donegal, Mayo and Galway.
