Description
Hello people!
My name is Robin and I live in a traditional small stone house on Kea island, Greece, together with my partner Christina. We moved here to live a slower, more sustainable life — growing our own food and enjoying the peace of island living. We have a vegetable garden, a dog and 5 cats running around. I work for the plant nursery of the island and Christina works as a gardener. Next to our full-time jobs, we are busy with several tasks that need to be done around the house. We'd appreciate an extra set of hands and can offer an active routine with good food, breaks for a swim and hikes on the lovely island of Kea. This place is full of ancient paths, majestic oak trees, old stone houses, clean beaches and clear waters. Since we both work full-time, we think it would be best if volunteers chosing to come here were in pairs or someone who likes to spend alone time during the day.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I can show you the local plants and talk about the wild and cultivated plants and their uses.
You will experience one of the cycladic islands of the Aegean where we live off the land as much as we can. You will learn different things, depending on the season you visit us, from plant identification and uses, cooking, preservation, gardening and weaving with wild plants.
We will show you how to use tools for gardening and how to care for them.
If you wish to learn some Greek, we'll can start using some basic phrases to help you learn.
Christina is a writer and gives writing workshops. We sometimes have Journaling sessions among us as a way to share and connect with what is alive in us. We also try to train in the evenings and once the weather gets right (it's almost there) we will go to the beach for swims, in the many lovely options the island has to offer. You are welcome to become part of our daily routine if it suits you.
Help
We're looking for people who like to be outdoors, to work with plants, to cook, to learn new things.
Some examples of activities you may get involved in include: gardening and harvesting veggies, foraging and preserving food, pruning and mulching, collecting wood, and general maintenance like organizing our storage area, fixing and painting furniture. Food preservation is an interest of ours that we're happy to share and teach about. Currently, making lots of pickles with salt and vinegar! Everything we produce is for our household :)
I will be teaching you everything I know about plants, production, harvest and preservation. I know the local flora and can show you more plants if you have an interest in them. I'm personally always interested in learning new plants and their uses myself, so happy to exchange knowledge as well :)
Our vegetable garden is small but provides us with vegetables and greens. Help watering, weeding and harvesting is always welcome!

Accommodation
We live in an old small traditional stone house, built in the local architecture. The house is small and has 2 rooms. 1 is our bedroom and the other has a bed that can be used for hosting volunteers. Please note that the room is also used for storing things. We will therefore need to regularly enter that room. Though we will always ask before entering, your privacy might feel limited and I want to be clear in advance about this.
(in the summer)There is also the option to stay in a tent that we can provide, if more privacy is needed. We have a lovely spot under an oak tree with shade all day!!
Food is provided, all meals are on us. We will share the cooking though, so I'd appreciate it if you like to cook ;)
What else ...
The house is quite remotely located, the closest shop and restaurant are 15 minutes on foot. It is generally easy to hitchhike on the island and we also have a car that we may share. This is a place for calming down and connecting with nature. Don't expect a busy place with lots of people. Since we both work full-time, we think it would be best if volunteers chosing to come here were in pairs or someone who likes to spend alone time during the day.
