We are a family from England running a busy hostel in Chefchaouen, Morocco with the help of two locals-Shayma and Hannan. We have had our business here for ten years and have enjoyed meeting travellers from all over the world. Chefchaouen is a small village situated under the Riff mountains in Northern Africa. Our hostel is inside the medina which gives you great and easy access to explore the beautiful collection of authentic shops, restaurants, and markets and from our terrace you can see the rise of the mountains and the valleys below.

Chefchaouen is famous for the blue houses of the medina. The first settlers in this area were of Jewish decent who believed if they painted their homes blue, which matches the colour of the sky, it would bring them closer to God and the heavens. A lot of this authenticity can still be found here today in the style and dress of the locals, the cuisine, the rituals and customs, and in the call to prayer. Chefchaouen remains a popular tourist destination for people wishing to visit a calm, scenic, and beautiful medina in Morocco.

Living in Chefchaouen you will be immersed in local Moroccan culture and interact with the local community on a daily basis. Try the local cuisine and practice your Arabic with the vendors. You will get to practice your languages with the diverse range of guests at the hostel and learn how to provide excellent customer service.

As a volunteer with us you would be helping with our guests with rotating 5 hour shifts, 2pm-7pm and 7pm-midnight. The help required would include greeting our guests, providing them with information, checking them in and out, and ensuring they follow the rules of our hostel, which has quiet hours. A bit of light cleaning would also be helpful as our guests like to spend a lot of their time here on the terrace which should be kept tidy. You must comfortable with computers/internet so you can also keep track of our online bookings and social media. All digital work is well appreciated.

When off you would have free time to see the medina and surrounding mountains which have beautiful walking trails. Chefchaouen is a very calm and serene village with great weather so it is a beautiful place to spend time relaxing. You will also meet a lot of our guests and spend time getting to know them and going on outings with them if you chose. There is a nearby national park where we organize hikes to a giant waterfall, which our guests really enjoy.

Note: Unfortunately, we cannot accept couples as this changes the dynamics of the staff team

We would offer our volunteer a bed in a three-bedroom dorm reserved for workawayers. Although our riad is popular and regularly busy, our guests are quiet and so are our neighbours in the town. We also offer our volunteer all meals. Breakfast you can have in the morning prepared by our staff and all other meals you can cook for yourself with food purchased by us from the local market. We have wifi here at the hostel you can use, hot water showers, and a regular bathroom.
