Come help us with our unique guest house on Lake Malawi, owned by two South Africans. We started the lodge last year in 2017. We have ten rooms which we let out to travelers from around the world. We encourage a relaxed environment with positive vibes and good company.
Come and experience first hand the many cultures of Malawi. Malawian people are of the Bantu origin and comprise of many different ethnic groups, including, Chewa, Nyanja, Yao, Tumbuka, Lomwe, Sena, Tonga, Ngoni, Ngonde, Asian and European.
Malawi is often called the "Warm Heart of Africa." because of the warmth and friendliness of the people.
What makes us unique, is that we are based on the Southern part of the lake, neighboring the Malawi Navy, as well as the port for the only far distant passenger ferry, the Ilala. Workawayers can see up close the many vessels that occupy Monkey bay Harbour.
We are also on the boundry of one of Malawi's National Parks, so a short walk away to exploring the National Park and all its bird and animal life.
We are also a short walk away to traditional fishing villages along side the lake, where one can experience first hand the unaltered lifestyle of Malawian fishermen.
Workawayers will either work an early or late shift of 4 to 5 hours. Task will be varied and can include assisting in the restaurant or kitchen. Training will be given on our computer system for assisting in reception with arrivals and departures. From time to time assistance will be required in housekeeping. Other duties will include assisting guests with general inquiries and giving recommendation on activities, transport options, places to see etc. Workawayers will also be required to collect guests off the ferry and occasionally do shopping trips to Lilongwe or Blantyre.
A Private en suite room or furnished canvas tent with sshared bathroom. The room or tent will be furnished with a double bed, cupboard space, bedside table and reading lamp and mosquito net.
We provide 3 meals a day and drinks are available at cost price to Workaways. There is no charge for tea and coffee.
Workawayers can enjoy water activities including kayaking, fishing, sailing and snorkeling at no cost, as we provide all the equipment. We can also organise scuba diving at a discounted rate from one of our neighbouring lodges. Visit the islands, traditional fishing villages, the well known Cape Maclear or Liwonde national park.
