    Description

I was born and raised in south Louisiana but have been lucky to live in Mexico, Spain and China and explore more than 70 countries. Learning about different ways of living and sharing is the meaning of my life. Acadiana is rich in culture and history but unfortunately doesn't have the most resilient economy. I decided to purchase an abandoned home and barn on 1 acre of land which looks and feels very bucolic despite being a 15 min drive from downtown Lafayette, the heart of Cajun country and a vibrant college town. Unfortunately I realized I do not posess all of the skills to rehab/finish the home. The pasture has been neglected but that should be more straightforward and I'm experienced/confident to help with anything outdoors. This would make a perfect spot for animals (including a horse) and a garden but it will take some effort. You will be provided free accomodation as well as hourly pay for your efforts.

My family has been farming this area for many generations and I am happy to share what I know of this land and its traditions. My grandparents' first language is French and I can teach you some Cajun words. I'm experienced teaching Spanish (fluent) and can recount my experience living in Latin America and Spain.
Happy to help support you to ensure you have the correct visa/work permit and insurance.

Looking for someone who is skilled, organized and motivated to tackle a big project. I am providing pay ($20/hour) and rustic accomodations in exchange for energy, vision and rehab skills. As of now, the home has a good floor, roof and wiring but is otherwise unfinished. I will cover the cost of any materials (or specialized contractors for specific challenges like plumbing) but would prefer someone who has most of the tools and knowledge needed to get this home up to code.

    Accommodation

This is an unfinished home that is safe and dry and there is a fence around the property. I will provide a bed and new bedding. Laundry services are available in town. You will have the house and pasture mostly to yourself. . . I will meet with you throughout the week to offer assistance and check on any needs you may have. The neighbors are set a bit away and friendly. Alternatively, if you have a van you are welcome to park on the property and sleep there. Animals are welcome. I want to find someone who is motivated to learn about this region and the history of the land and architecture. As a host my goal is to hear about your way of life/upbringing and aquire some building skills. You will receive free accomodation as well as hourly pay.

    What else ...

Acadiana is full of charming little towns with lots of history and beautiful architecture and gardens. There is so much unique and scrumptious gastronomy . . . some of my favorites are hot juicy boudin, oyster poboys and the softest snowballs this side of Heaven. People are warm and want to socialize. There are countless forests and swamps all around for secluded walks or paddling adventures.
