    Description

Hello, I'm Birgit, I'm from Germany and live on a 3.5ha farm called Pihlaka with a dog, chickens and rabbits in Estonia. Other animals such as sheep and goats will follow, because my goal is to live as self-sufficiently as possible here. I earn my money with an animal boarding house, so there are often other animals, especially dogs, who also live in the house.
I endeavour to keep my ecological footprint as small as possible and live a simple life in cycles and with the seasons. This includes, for example, only buying basic foodstuffs and making many things myself. The wooden house is also being renovated ecologically. You won't find a television or dishwasher here. But there is a WLAN connection.
The farm is 15 km from the Latvian border and 3 km from the sea. I bought it in 2021 in a very desolate condition and I spend my days rebuilding it on a ecological way. Helping hands are very welcome for this.
I am a non-smoker and therefore only accept non-smokers. You should also have a good feeling for the preservation of nature.

I am happy to return the favor with free accommodation and good food. The animals I keep are also eaten and tofu doesn't grow here ;-), may be for strong vegetarians not the right place. I am happy to pass on my many years of knowledge about self-sufficiency, in particular the keeping and slaughtering of animals, growing vegetables and seed propagation. I try to do as much as possible myself. I make bread and cheese, spin wool and turn it into clothes. I also make music (tenor flute) and sing in a choir, other musicians are very welcome.

The farm is farmed organically, but only serves self-sufficiency.
In 2025 I am looking for people
    - with artistic talent for the design the walls of the house
    - for building a fence for sheep and goats
    - for digging a trench (with excavator)
    - for the creation of a vegetable garden (only possible in the months 4, 5, 8, 9, 10)
    - with carpentry skills
    - to make firewood (only autumn/spring)

Occasionally I am looking for people to look after the house and animals while I am away, e.g. mid-September 2025
I prefer people who speak German or French. But it is not a condition.
    Wintermonths:
In principle, I can also accommodate people in winter, but it would have to be discussed to what extent there is work that can be done during this time.
In the photo gallery you can see what other Workawayers have already done here.

    Accommodation

You can use my bedroom and there is plenty of space to set up tents. People with caravan are also welcome.
In summer I can accommodate 2 people, when they sleep in a tent.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The supposedly most beautiful sandy beach in Estonia is 3,5 km away. There is also a great bathing lake 11 km away, where you are usually all alone. Both are very warm in summer.
Nature lovers, especially butterfly lovers, will get their money's worth here. There are two raised bogs nearby that can be walked on. In one of them you also can go swimming. The third largest city Pärnu with many sights is 50km away and can be reached by bus, which does not run frequently. From Pärnu you can reach the cities of Tallinn, Tartu and other smaller towns easily and cheaply by long-distance bus. For Riga exists a bus stop 15km from here at the latvian border. But even here in the country there are many cultural offers in summer.
