Description
We are an association with more than 20 members who are actively working towards promotion of active citizenship, volunteering, ecology, tourism and the preservation of cultural heritage. Some of the association's activities include the organization of the One World Film Festival, craft day, prevention of erosion, etc.
The aim of this workcamp is to draw attention to the problem of desiccation of landscape and to show a possible way how to promote water retention in the soil, inspire locals and motivate them to join voluntary ecological activities. It also aims to promote community life and to offer the local community to meet all the volunteers and learn about their cultures.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
There are some field trips planned for Workawayers to get to know the protected landscape area Broumovsko, especially the rock towns but also Baroque churches. There will be a possibility to attend a debate with a local ecologist about water retention, with an ornithologist, with a historian or with organic farmers about various topics.
Help
The work will mainly consist of manual activities in nature. You will manually dig holes (or finish holes pre-dug by a small digging machine) to make water pools with the aim to retain water and thus help prevent drought and re-create habitats for amphibians, insects and birds, work in the forest (cleaning paths and roads for better access), assist local eco-farmers.

Accommodation
The Workawayers will stay in a lodge in Police nad Metuji. There are bedrooms with mattresses (bring your sleeping bag), bathroom, toilets and kitchen. You might stay at a different lodge for couple of nights. In case you do not have your sleeping bag/mat, pls let us know, we can provide you with them.
You will prepare your own meals as a group, sometimes you will bring your lunch with you. We have a budget for 3 meals a day for all the volunteers.
Workaway volunteers will not be asked to pay any fee or payment.
What else ...
You will spend a lot of time outdoors. You will be able to explore the area through all kinds of activities such as rock climbing, cycling, walking, sightseeing, bathe in ponds/swimming pools. There is a swimming pool, a theatre, a cinema, pubs and shops in the town. We can go to a concert, movies, debate with guests if covid-related circumstances allow.
The workcamp will kick start with a concert (Police Symphony Orchestra) in town's square on Sun. 29/08 at 4pm which provides a wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow volunteers. You will spend the first night in the scout's club and then move to the project's site.
The small town (4000 inhab.) of Police nad Metují is situated amid several sandstone rock towns (Adršpach, Teplice nad Metují, Ostaš, Broumovské stěny) in north-east Bohemia, close to the Polish border. It is easily accessible from Prague, Hradec Králové via Náchod and from Wroclaw, Walbrzych via Meziměstí, Broumov or Kudowa Zdroj/Náchod.
Please bring a hat, a tick repellent, waterproof clothes and shoes (ideally rubber boots), a sleeping mat and a sleeping bag (weekend trip). We´d prefer you do not take the plane in order to participate. We prefer a train, a bus or a bicycle. If you do not have your own bicycle, we can provide one for you.
