I stayed with Dag for 3.5 weeks, during harvest season. The harvest was tough this year because of the irregular wet and dry periods, so there was a lot of do!
A typical day during my stay was going to Dag’s house for breakfast at 9am, having great food which Dag made, and then I’d either have some free time to myself until lunch at about 2-3pm,
… read more be tasked to pick blueberries in the mountain 5 minutes away (something very relaxing for me), and occasionally help turn grass in the barn. At 3-4pm the harvesting help started for me (Dag himself started much earlier, he was very busy and hardworking with all the hay), where I typically used a rake to gather the grass in lumps so Dag can use his tractor to transport the hay back to the barn. The day usually ended at around 9pm, where we then had dinner together. I had no farm experience prior to this, but Dag patiently showed me how to do everything that he wanted me to do. There was work every day (even weekends) during harvesting, always something to do on the farm, and it was quiet in your free time, which was a nice way to keep yourself occupied but at peace. Although it helps to be flexible: we helped hours depending on the weather, and it was never a strict schedule; a true experience as a farmer.
Dag has a beautiful farm. It is surrounded by rivers and mountains, and he has chickens and geese which roam around freely in the day. Very very friendly geese, they always instantly brightened my mood. In your stay you’d stay in a separate cabin to his house, and it was very quiet as well. Sometimes his son, Nydag, would be with us. He’s a lovely and bright kid, and very fun to be around.
Dag’s place is a great to stay if you want to be in touch with animals, nature, experience true farm life in a peaceful setting, and if you want to experience a beautiful part of Norway. He also makes great food (e.g., his Norwegian pizza) so that’s a bonus! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I stayed at Dag's farm twice and both times it was a great experience. My first stay was in December/January. As Maria described already, the work was not hard and did not take much time in a day and it was great to have so much time for enjoying this remote place and the animals ( and learning few norwegian words too ;-) ) I was also taken to
… read more skiing trip and enjoyed it very much. Meals were cooked and eaten in Dag's house and I had a room in separate house which is normally rented out. I saw the little cabin which is usually used by workawayers and it's nice too. My second stay was in July and it was a mixture of very easy days when I was just feeding chickens and doves, searching for eggs and giving sheep and horses some nutritious granules, salt and sea plants. And bottle- feeding two cute lambs :) Plus cutting some branches, bushes and grass along the electric fence. Then there was an early hay harvest. That can be physically demanding as you spend lots of time raking the hay which Dag's small nature friendly machinery was not able to pick up. You are rewarded by wonderful views, seeing the clear result of your work and strong muscles ;-) I was able to stay in the house again (normally rented out) and had my own kitchen to use, and for change I was buying my own food ( I came by car this time) and cooked for myself and Dag paid all my expenses afterwards. For me ideal situation. But I believe the normal situation will be for workawayers to stay in the little cabin and eat in Dag's house. We became good friends, also with Nydag ( Dag's son) and I am looking forward to see them one day again :)You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Alena stayed as a work-a-way last year one month in winthertime and she stayed here in July this year. I have an ecological farm with horses, sheeps and chicken. She is excellent in any way as a work-a-way. She speaks very good english and understand easily when you explain the work to do. You can fully trust her in everything. I can give my very

Maria was staying on my farm about two weeks in January this year. She was very great to have as a work-a-way. Maria is very intelligent and learned easily how to do things. She was mostly taking care of 31 sheep and 4 horses. She did this task very good even she had no experience with sheep and horses from before. Maria was nice to have long talk

All my very best recommend for her if she will apply other work-a-way hosts for a stay as a work-a-way. She is reliable and trustful. My best recommends for Maria!

I was volunteering at Dag's farm for 10 days in Jan 2020. It was amazing experience for me to stay at the farm among picturesque landscape and so close to animals as I have been living all my life in a huge city. The unique charm of this old farm is in it’s remote location at the sparsely populated area between hills on the shore of a small river

My help was only needed less than 2 hrs per day in total – I fed horses and sheeps three times per day (at 8 AM, 1 PM and 6 PM) and packed hay into 8 bags once a day. So the workload was very light. Animals are very friendly and it was cute to caress them. All other time I could spend on my own in my room reading and relaxing, or stay at Dag’s house talking with Dag, cooking and having meals together, watching movies on big screen, and enjoying company of Nydag, 9 y.o. Dag’s son, who speaks English fluently and is very active and cheerful.
The farm is more than 250 y.o and it’s very interesting to see facilities of old times which are still in use. Dag’s house is lovely with fireplace and hammock inside living room and all furniture made of wood. Dag is very nice and kind person, interesting to talk with.
I am very grateful for two skiing walks and a hiking and even ice-fishing which Dag organized for us. I borrowed skis from a neighbor and wished I had taken from home my very best skis as the area is fantastic with prepared routes for speedy cross-country skiing.
You should be ready for real rural life there: toilets’ re outside, shower is inside but is of a special construction, internet connection is disappearing – it’s good if to cross the bridge to other side of the river but at the side of the farm’s houses signal is very weak. In winter it’s worth to take shoes with cleats because the ground can be very slippery, head-torch for working or getting out in dark hours and thick gloves for working with hay.
My stay at Dag’s farm was very unique and peaceful for me and I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you, dear Dag!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
