*️️️*️️️WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US BUILD IN ROUND CHESTNUT HARVESTED FROM OUR LAND - BOTH PEOPLE WITH SKILLS AND THOSE WHO WANT TO LEARN. WE PLAN TO BUILD A RECIPROCAL ROOF ROUNDHOUSE LATER IN THE YEAR*️️️*️️️
We are a family of four humans and five animals living wild and free in the hills and chestnut forests of southern France.
We love nature and the great outdoors, sitting by log fires, cooking and eating delicious meals, great conversation with friends old and new, dancing in the tiny road outside our house, hosting parties and generally embracing life.
We have a tumble-down farmhouse with barn and dairy attached. We love it here, but we are beginning to realise that such an idyllic life comes at a price - and that during the summer tourist season we will need to rent out our dairy and wood cabin in order to survive.
We also need some help with our 2 year old twins - Rosie and Hamish.
We'd also like some care-taking of the house and of the animals who share our lives: our gentle and wise dog Muttley, our thieving but lovable cat Marzipan and our three delinquent donkeys, Paulette (the ringleader), Alphonse (the stooge) and Josephine (the baby).

Help with Eco project
We will take you hiking in the beautiful hills. We will lend you bicycles. You may or may not choose to plunge into icy rivers. There is a cross-country ski station seven hundred meters above our home. There are farmers' markets and ruined castles. We will bend your ear about romanesque architecture and Cathar civilisation. There's even a tiny art-house cinema in the nearest village, two kilometres away. We will embrace you into our chaotic, loving, crazy family. At the same time, we will respect your private space. We prefer you to have your own vehicle - but if you don't, a clean driving licence is essential. And of course we have fast broadband.
Over this season we have a lot of fabulous natural building projects, particularly in wood and stone. We want to find people who will love taking part - both those with building/carpentry/plumbing skills whom we can learn from, and those with enthusiasm, whom we can teach. Plus anyone who loves kids to help with our adorable two year old twins.
Over the spring/summer we're preparing for a reciprocal roof roundhouse build we'll be doing in September with the help of volunteers.
From now onwards we're:
-setting up a field kitchen, compost loos and river showers
-building removable decks for campers
-renovating a small, stone-walled cottage
-experimenting with roundwood timber framing...
...all while having as much fun and, well, life, as possible.
Usually stone cottage, with possibility of some camping in the spring and summer, depending how many people we have staying.
Fly to Bezier (one hour from us, a couple of buses) or Montpellier, which is a bit further from us, but has a direct bus all the way to our village.
