  • Description

We came to Puerto Escondido and fell in love with the place. Our love of surf and sustainability led us to the next logical conclusion: build some sustainable bungalows, plant a food forest and put up something nice that encompasses love of nature, with love of quality and tradition.

Our land is in La Punta, about 10 minutes walking distance to the ocean and Playa La Punta Zicatela with its great surf break, restaurants and lots more!

We started almost a year ago, but already a lot has happened: We have 4 houses in different stages of construction, they are being build with superadobe/earthbags. We have some experience with this kind of construction as we built a small earthbag dome on a nearby rancho and a lot we learned on site by doing it. We have also begun planting the beginning of a food-forest style garden. We have some Melons already growing (they are delicious), Papayas and more..... Some time ago we planted a fence made out of bamboo. The construction site is slowly developing to an even nice looking site.

At the moment, the hosts are not sleeping on site, my house is close by though. Depending on when you will come there are different options to stay:
    - a tent or a hammock on site (either if you have your own or we can provide one for you)
    - an apartment we use for the volunteers to stay in
    - or even one of the earthbag houses (in the future)

We work in the mornings from 8:00-12:00, to be done before the heat and you can take the rest of the day off. At 12 we have a communal lunch with all the workers.

We are learning as we are doing, so if you have any natural building experience or permaculture skills, or know a trade, we welcome you full-heartedly!
We are learning as we are doing, so if you have any specific skills, for example
    - natural building or general building experience
    - permaculture (we have started, but we want to expand our garden)
    - soldering (we need to solder batteries for our solar system)
    - carpentry(Furniture, Roofing, ....)
we would love you to come.
But also, if you are just eager to learn and want to get your hands dirty.

You will have the opportunity to learn about earth-bag building, learn some Spanish and live in one of the most beautiful parts of coastal Oaxaca.

  • Help

Come to beautiful Puerto Escondido, and enjoy the sun and surf while working on an sustainable bungalow build.

Some tasks might involve hands-on work at the building site, garden maintenance, digging, filling earth-bags, etc.
While others can be the maintenance of the social media, teaching english to one of our workers who really wants to learn and many more tasks.

We work in the early mornings because the afternoon heat can be quite oppressive.

We are especially looking for people that know about and have experience in:
    - Carpentry
    - Building
    - Soldering
    - Permaculture

But as long as you are open minded, willing to work and learn you can be a valuable participant in our project.

  • Accommodation

Depending on availability, we have an apartment that we use for volunteers, Another option could be a tent or a hammock directly on site. We have enough space for a couple vans or motorhomes on site. Running water (at the moment a garden hose) and electricity.

As we will probably not be staying at the same place the whole time as you and do not requite a full day's work, we can offer to provide a meal a day, which might be lunch, just for convenience sake. We can negotiate this if you would rather a breakfast.

We could accommodate your dietary preferences. The meal provided varies.

There will be water on-site at all times, and we would welcome you to come join us for meals at our home when time allows it.

There is no WIFI on the premises. But decent cell reception.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Around here, the main thing to do is surf. If you're not a surfer, you can learn... or body board, or swim.
Or, you can just relax at the beach, make new friends, take a salsa lesson, dream a dream and enjoy life however you do that best!

Otherwise, there are nearby lakes and rivers, a lively night-life and many chances to meet fellow travelers.

I have shifted my focus from a different project (a farm) to this project and so I have changed the profile here. The first reviews are from the rancho.
