Description
We are an Australian/swiss family. Kirk and Lora are your hosts and our kids are older but still very much part of our lives and live with us in the city.
We’re a warm, creative Australian family (mum & dad + four kids): three at university and our youngest finishing Year 12 in 2026 with a passion for music, visual arts, design and golf (current handicap ~16 and very keen to improve! and be tutored if time permits).
We run a peaceful retreat for our family only and social-therapy practice one day a week when we come up on our beautiful property in central Yarragon – directly opposite the train station, surrounded by Gippsland’s famous wineries, cheese producers, rolling hills and jaw-dropping sunsets.
We’re looking for a great Workawayer or couple (older child very welcome) to stay 2–3 months (or longer) and treat our place as your Australian base. In exchange for 3–5 hours help per day, 5 days a week, meals of course included, you’ll have your own private self-contained unit: bedroom, lounge, office nook, full kitchen and bathroom.
Main tasks in Yarragon
• Tidying, cleaning and organising our charming old red-brick dairy (future studio!)
• Gardening, mowing, weeding and general grounds care
• Property maintenance and small handyperson projects
• Creative/arts/music mentoring or light tutoring for our Year 12 student
• Golf practice or coaching – our son plays regularly and would love to drop that handicap with a keen golfer!
Exciting longer-term possibility
All going well, we’re reopening a small boutique hotel inside Galle Fort, Sri Lanka in 2026. If everything clicks here in Australia, there may be an opportunity to travel with us (all expenses covered) and help with similar restoration, gardening and light maintenance work in one of the most beautiful places on earth – think turquoise ocean, colonial architecture and tropical sunsets.
You’ll be part of the family, share meals when you like, enjoy peaceful country life (or tropical life later!), and have plenty of free time and direct trains to Melbourne, the Prom, wineries and more.
• Preferred stay in Australia: minimum 2–3 months (longer very welcome)
• Couples and small families especially encouraged
Come for the Australian countryside, stay for the friendships… and maybe end up in a UNESCO World Heritage fort in Sri Lanka! We’d love to hear from you. 🧀🎨🏌️♂️🌴

Help
We also welcome individuals who are competent in a bit of initiative to do as they see whats needed. We have occasionally had volunteers who do different things based upon their skills so we encourage you to ask if you have a specific gift. We have some music in the family also. Piano and guitar. Cultural exchange is big on our priorities. Show us about your culture and we'll show you ours.
