    Description

For 2 years I travelled through Africa with my backpack and my two children. My children were then 1 and 11 years old. We left everything behind us and started the adventure of our lives. Before our trip I ran cooking schools in Germany. For 25 years I was a gastronomer.
We moved around in public, did some couchsurfing and a lot of workaway. We didn't even have bad experiences, on the way we often thought about starting our own projects. In Tanzania we did that as well. Not least because I had the feeling that my little one needed some toys. So it happened that we painted the first wooden building blocks and had them made by a friend who worked in wood processing. The joy was on all sides very large, already with the manufacturing. I remember that even the adults could not stop playing with the building blocks. I knew that I was on the right track to face new challenges.
On the way to Runada, we visited some schools and the idea grew with what we saw every day. So the idea was born to develop creative and meaningful toys, where children learn something meaningful for everyday life. In Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, we met somebody who has a laser and was able to produce bigger ones. We sat together and came up with the idea of the AFRICA PUZZEL MAP. The sample was given away to an organization that cares for street children. We produced about 100 of them, all of which were given away to schools or sold by private persons. Now we would like to expand this idea.
In the long term I would like to build wooden houses that are accessible for all children. In Africa I had to realize that there are not only few playgrounds for children, but that children often don't play at all because they are busy with everyday things. My experience, however, is that children need a childhood in which they can let off steam, discover themselves and discover the world. To be able to develop well and age-appropriate. Children must be allowed to play if they want to create their life.
The houses should be built in such a way that they are built like playgrounds to let off steam and inside many natural materials to create. I also want to design and print small children's books. For children with true stories from children all over the world.

Kigali is the capital of Rwanda and is located in the middle of Africa. Rwanda is the greenest, cleanest, safest country I have ever visited. Rwanda is also called the land of 1000 hills. I love to walk along the streets. There are no straight roads here. It either goes up or down. That's why you have a breathtaking view of the city from everywhere. Especially riding a motorcycle, when you see the lights of the night and the warm summer wind is blowing around your nose, is fun. Kigali is a very developed city, you can compare it with a city in Europe. And yet it is in the middle of Africa and has not lost the flair and charm of Africa. But the villages are often very poor and need support.
We live here in a beautiful house in Gishushu. This is a very central part of town, from where you can reach everything easily.

Since I first came to Kigali, I have often visited the street children to bring them something to eat. In the long run, however, this is not a solution and so I decided to give the children the opportunity to participate. I hope that you will get an idea for your future and have a perspective. I hope that the project runs so well that the children can always be provided with food.

I also want to create a small permaculture project garden. We have already started with that. Fruits from all over the world. You are welcome to bring along seeds so that the garden will be colourful.
I have the vision that all people in the world have enough to eat at any time. But for this it is important that not only areas are used sensibly, but also that the knowledge about the plants is spread. A lot of knowledge has been lost. Knowledge had to make way for school. Using land sensibly will be a decisive point here to show people that everyone has room to plant something. No matter if vertical or horizontal.

Attention: It is not impossible that the Africa virus will get you. That means you fall in love so much that you keep coming back or maybe don't go at all. So be prepared for everything.

    ---------------------------

Also seit auf alles gefasst.

The street children and local producers as well as the neighborhood give a very good insight into the real life of Rwanda. There are also regular barbecues with friends from Kigali. Of course there is also the possibility to experience it yourself and to explore the area.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

For short stays, I ask you to bring your own tents. There is enough space in the garden. A bath is also available to you.
Otherwise we have rooms for 2 people. Children are very welcome.
The house is in a very quiet side street in the Gishushu district. Not far from the RDB and Quesion Coffee. KIgali Heights. A very modern shopping mall. With the moto you can also drive well in town. Costs about 500 RF 0.50 cents.
Buses run everywhere. Also across Rwanda. Since it is a small country, everything was quickly seen a lot. Akagera, the national park is not far. Likewise Lake Kivu.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You can grab a motorcycle and enjoy Kigali. There are local but also international restaurants, coffee and bars everywhere. Kigali has a lively afterlife who wants to go dancing. There are enough museums and historical sites. If you are interested in the genocide, there are many memorials.

For me, the simplest and most fun means of transportation is the motorcycle. You just walk down the street. Honking motorcycles. If you want to ride, you give a sign that the driver can stop and get on.
