Green, Solar and Internet Professional with fixer upper House in Los Angeles, enjoys hosting interesting, thoughtful, helpful & handy people. Covid-19 OMG, :-( has changed my way of making invitations on Workaway. At this time are only considering Workawayers who have reviews from previous hosts and are able to explain which projects you're best suited help with here.
This is a great neighborhood near hiking and just a couple of blocks to Ventura Blvd. a main street wit restauranst and shopping. Catch a bus 2blks away to anywhere in LA. Walk to shopping. If you have a car (please l let me know if you have a car) the house is close to major freeways. Be in Malibu in 25 minutes. The house is a central location to get anywhere around Los Angeles.
Sharing meals and conversation is how I like to enjoy cultural exchange on workaway.
This is not a free food workaway. Foodies with a travel budget encouraged to apply. I love cooking and sharing great food. Best fit for people who speak conversational English, and enjoy organic food and want to share some meals and good cheer together for cultural exchange. I love to cook and enjoy cooking with other cooks. If you're not acookbut like doing dishes that's a treat for me too. I don't mind being the chef for the most part.

Speaking conversational English a must. Happy to help you improve your English but am not good with people who struggle to understand basic English. I'm sorry. Must be comfortable being a good guest. Think of it like visiting a relative you respect. Good manners a must. It's important you be comfortable following instructions. You’re only here for 2 weeks. I want you to have a wonderful time visiting LA. I have plans in place to get projects done so please don't be someone who resents instructions for projects . Please be someone who puts things back where you found them (so we can find them when you leave) and is neat and organized about tasks and tools.
We do 2-Week Workkaways. The ideal workawayers here are looking to experience a fun-filled adventure exploring LA, and staying here for two-weeks. Vacationers with a budget and desire to get out and see LA & do some sightseeing are the best fit.The help is important but not too hard for people who enjoy the tasks. You're polite, hardworking, have a great sense of humor and here to share a community experience and save money on a place to stay in LA. Please do not be someone who excessively drinks alcohol daily and let me know if you are a regular drinker up front.
Encino is a very nice, safe neighborhood, close to hiking and a bus 2 blocks away. You can expect a private room or 2 people to a room. You may be the only workawayer or we may have another workawayer. Organic Garden (in season yummy free farm to table food). Otherwise, free food not included.
Good Internet available. Let me know if you plan to work from here online. No pets. Sorry. I do not have a pet anymore. My beloved dog Bart recently passed away at 15. He was adorable and a workawayer favorite :-)

About me: I'm a solar design consultant, who had a digital imaging and graphics business for major movie posters and advertising for many years, now involved in a green internet startup. Am launching an internet directory and green website. Am LGBTQ friendly. Have extensive experience in business and as an employer. We're creative people, who enjoy nature, share meals and create a community to cook together, share stories around the table, and explore Los Angeles.
My joy in workaway is a mutually happy and rewarding two-weeks. I want to get projects done, and am looking for conscientious volunteers who care about detail, and offer you a friendly, welcoming, free and safe place to enjoy your stay in LA. Most people who stay here like to cook, hike, go to the beach, and museums.
I volunteer to take you on a gorgeous neighborhood hike, or up to Univeral Citywalk for a movie, and to visit Malibu or another must-see LA spot, and help you plan your independent adventures.
When you contact me please mention what projects you are well suited to help.
We need to have a big garage sale coming up and need to sort and price things to get that ready and clear the house of everything being sold. The garage is dirty. Are you ready to take on this help with some heavy lifting?
My father passed away and have an abundance of things to sort through and sell in a garage sale, unpack, move furniture, and hang moderately heavy mirrors.. A fringe benefit for us as host is we like to get a break from house cleaning and dishes. Are you OK to do dishes to give me a break for 2 weeks. It's great to share cooking and I'm a pretty good cook.
We have a fixer-upper house that's also quite spacious and comfortable. I'm a former solar design consultant and practice permaculture. We do organic gardening (but this year was very sparse). Are you a gardener? We have a yard that has a bunch of weeds and crabgrass that needs to be dug up. It's not too hard and not that easy. Are you up for ridding the weeds and crabgrass? Expect a combination of inside and outside projects. Need help with general "handyman/woman, hanging mirrors and art, moving furniture packing and unpacking. Cleaning the garage. Doing dishes, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting and mopping? The help is varied, we can mix it up, and prefer some skill level and willingness to get down and dirty. You can read from our reviews the help is not that hard.
We a large well-trained, friendly standard poodle dog, and don't accept pets or children or campers in the driveway. Sorry.. May want you to take care of our dog for a few days. Do you love walking dogs? Are you a dog person? Looking for responsible people who take helping us seriously. There's a lot of time to play, so it's a great exchange. Please let me know if you have a car.
Please note what you are good at when you contact us and what if any projects you would not want to do. (Would you trap a gopher?) Yikes! Yard work, painting, general cleaning and yard sale prep and fixing stuff around the house are ongoing. Looking for people willing to jump in on priority projects. If you only want to do certain things and would object to painting, gardening or cleaning please let me know. Many apply. Our selection is made on who we feel will enjoy their stay here the most and who can help us the most. This is a very nice convenient to get around LA and safe neighborhood.
1-4 person residential workaway at lovely home that we're transitioning into urban/suburban tree forest and organic gardens. Large rooms. Spacious house in a beautiful, safe LA neighborhood of Encino. Rooms have a queen and 2nd twin bed. May be a private room or two to a room or couple in a private queen bedroom. Kitchen access with everything to prepare meals community style. We don't provide food accept breakfast on helping days. We trade for a lovely place to stay. We also go out of our way to help you have a fun-filled and lovely stay here.
Off-street parking (Tell us if you have a car). Only 2 Blocks from Ventura Blvd. the main shopping, restaurants, with a Bus Stop connecting to subway for getting all-around LA. Very convenient, SFV location, 1 mile from Sepulveda entrance to 405 and 101 freeways. Easy commute all over LA, (Within 25-35 Minutes) to Westwood, Hollywood, Burbank, Malibu, Santa Monica, Downtown. Offer 2 weeks work-away volunteer opportunities at Club Encino :) . If you plan to stay in CA longer, consider booking several work-aways for diversity. People who volunteer here for a 2-week workaway often visit other areas of CA such as the San Francisco Area, San Diego, or travel the US then come here for two weeks.
No excessive drinking or drugs. No food or smoking in bedrooms. No cigarette smokers welcome -- I'm sorry, I quit smoking so smoke and having smokers around would be hard for me to not ask you for one.
Encino is a very safe neighborhood in Los Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley, over the Hill from Bel-Air. Nice restaurants and shops within blocks. The house is spacious, arty and 2 Blocks South of Ventura Blvd. in a very nice safe LA neighborhood. Centrally located, with easy walkable access to bus system and freeways.
