Description
Live on a small island in nature – herbs, permaculture & simple living (Czech Republic)
We are a small family (me, my wife and our son) living on a unique small island between a river and an old mill channel in South Moravia, Czech Republic.
This is a quiet place surrounded by water, trees, and a living permaculture garden — where daily life is simple, hands-on, and closely connected to nature.
We are not a project or business. This is our family home, and we invite people to share life with us, not just exchange work for accommodation.
🌱 About the place
This is a family home, not a commercial farm or hostel.
Our daily life is based on plants, crafts, and natural materials:
medicinal herbs & traditional plant knowledge
permaculture garden with food & wild plants
sourdough bread baked in a wood oven
natural building (clay, plaster, stoves)
wood processing (including sawmill work)
natural cosmetics (soaps, balms, herbal remedies)
We live with dogs, cats, and Indian runner ducks. Everything here follows a natural, seasonal rhythm.
🧑🌾 What you will do here
The work is simple, seasonal, and mostly outdoors:
garden and land care
maintenance around the house after renovation
firewood preparation
light seasonal tasks
Depending on timing and interest, you may also join us in herbs, baking, or natural building.
💡 Work load: ~5 hours/day, 5 days/week
🟢 2 free days/week
🌦️ Flexible depending on weather and season
🏡 Living here
Accommodation depends on the season (wooden building, tent, or caravan).
Wi-Fi available
shared meals and daily life
minimum stay: 5 days
families and children welcome
pets possible after agreement
Life here is calm and flexible — sometimes shared, sometimes quiet — with respect for both connection and personal space.
🌿 What you can learn
This is a place for practical, hands-on experience:
herbs & natural medicine
making soaps, balms, and herbal remedies
working with wood and natural materials
basic natural building techniques
seasonal, simple living close to nature
We are currently also finishing a sauna and exploring bodywork and massage practices.
⚠️ Important – who this is NOT for
This is probably NOT a good fit if you are looking for:
hotel-like comfort
highly structured schedules
urban lifestyle or passive holiday
short stopovers while traveling fast
We are a family home, not a hostel.
🤝 Who feels at home here
This place works best for people who are:
comfortable with simple outdoor work
respectful of shared family space
curious, open-minded, and self-directed
interested in crafts, nature, and slow living
We value presence and attitude more than experience.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Cultural exchange here is based on sharing everyday life in a family home surrounded by nature, rather than structured activities or formal teaching.
Guests become part of our daily rhythm — working with plants, preparing food, caring for the land, and participating in simple seasonal tasks. This naturally creates space for informal exchange through doing things together rather than through lessons or classes.
We share knowledge in a practical way, for example:
herbal traditions and basic plant uses from our garden and surroundings
natural food preparation such as sourdough bread in a wood oven
hands-on experience with natural building materials like clay and wood
simple techniques for making soaps, balms, and herbal remedies
everyday life skills connected to slow, self-sufficient living
At the same time, we are also curious about the cultures, experiences, and skills of the people who come here. Cooking together, conversations, and shared work are all part of the exchange.
This is not a formal learning environment, but a lived experience of mutual exchange, where both sides contribute, share, and learn in a natural way.

Accommodation
Accommodation depends on the season and availability, but is always simple, safe, and part of our natural setting on the island.
We can offer a stay in a wooden building, a tent, or a caravan, depending on the time of year and current conditions. All options are located close to nature, surrounded by water, trees, and garden space.
Basic facilities are available, including Wi-Fi and access to shared household areas. Meals are shared as part of daily life whenever possible, and guests are included in the family rhythm of cooking and eating together.
The atmosphere is calm and flexible. Some spaces are more social, others more private, allowing both connection and personal time.
We aim to provide a simple and comfortable base that fits the slow, nature-oriented lifestyle of the place rather than a standard tourist accommodation.
What else ...
Life here is simple, seasonal and closely connected to nature. Days follow the weather, the garden, and the natural rhythm of the place rather than a strict schedule.
We usually start the day with shared or individual tasks in the morning, and afternoons are often more flexible — time to rest, explore the surroundings, learn skills, or simply be.
We enjoy sharing skills and knowledge, but we also value quiet time and personal space. Some days are social and collaborative, others are calm and focused.
Food is often shared and based on what is available from the garden and local sources. We appreciate people who are open to simple, homemade meals and a flexible approach to daily life.
This is a family environment, so we kindly ask for respect towards shared spaces, our child, and the natural rhythm of family life.
We prefer people who are self-motivated, comfortable with basic outdoor conditions, and open to learning by doing rather than expecting detailed instruction for every task.
In return, we offer a genuine experience of simple living, hands-on skills, and a peaceful natural environment that is quite unique in its setting on a small island surrounded by water.
