    Description

    Hello,

** Stop press! 30/07/2020 I'm looking for a couple to house sit for four weeks from 10 September 2020. Please message if interested and I'll give you the details! Thank you!**

After nearly two years of renovating the house, having welcomed nearly 100 marvelous Workawayers, it's time to turn our attention the gardens here. So we are looking for a single person or a couple (or a couple of friends) to start the long process of restoration.

Whilst we know precious little about permaculture we have a desire to create this garden along those principles. Anyone with an interest or indeed knowledge would be most welcome!

We are looking for independent people with good self motivation, enthusiasm and practical skill set to make themselves at home here for a while; get into the rhythm of the area, the land and the work that needs doing. And there is a lot of it:

    Wire fence clearing
Tree maintenance (manual tools only – no chainsaws)
    Clearing of vegetation
    Restoration of walls
    Restoration of a shell grotto
    Creating pathways
    Sowing grass seed
    And much more!…….

Occasionally, we may ask for help in the house. Cleaning bedrooms for guests, some small DIY jobs, painting and so on. If you enjoy cooking, it's always nice to share culture and recipes.

People with a passion for gardening, permaculture or garden design, would be most welcome. Our aim this year is to create a basic layout with most of the 1.5 acre garden put to grass so the grounds look less like ruined wilderness and more like a garden. A lot of the hard work has been done; we have just cleared half the land of 2m+ high brambles with a digger!

Accommodation is in a cosy two berth caravan. It has cooking facilities, battery powered lighting and a loo. Shower facilities are in the caretaker’s house.

Because we are so remote, we recommend having a car.

If you have a campervan, please do contact us as having your own accommodation means we can invite more people, which means more fun.

We respectfully ask for 25 hours a week. You may schedule your work any way you like to suit your needs and in order to explore the area here. There is plenty to do and see, especially water sports and walking. There will be a list of jobs that need doing and you can pick what you wish to tackle.

We always aim to create a relaxed and fun adventure for our workawayers. The house restoration was a great success (see our feedback!). The garden is a new story and a new way of working, plenty to do, but now with a new working partner – Mother Nature. And she will dictate the pace and how we work, although we do ask that it’s pretty swift in some areas! There is much to do and we hope you will enjoy your part in the restoration of this fine old property!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Pembrokeshire is the only Coastal National Park in the whole of the UK.

It highlights how truly beautiful it is. Stone from the county was used to build Stonehenge.

It has beautiful beaches, walks and cycle rides.

It has a big art scene and lots of historical sites.

    It is a true gem.

Learn new skills or help teach yours. Many of our volunteers have left us with new skills and we have had a few come through who were able to teach their skills.

We are still in need of kind, considerate and fun loving people with all sorts of Gardening skills, or an aptitude and good work ethic.

We have a lovely old formal garden which needs work. We have basic tasks like painting and general building maintenance.

Also there is a lovely walled formal garden in need of lots of TLC - including a shell grotto. It hasn't been touched in 50 years so needs lots of attention.

    What else ...

Lots of beaches and water sports. A car would be beneficial to explore further afield although there is a local bus service. There are a few bikes on site to borrow. The coast is just a 20min walk away, as is the local friendly pub. Great cafe in the village too!
