We are a family (mother, father, 2 boys born 2013 and 2016) who moved into our small energy efficient home January 2017 and have started a small garden, orchard, and made a short trail to redwood fairy rings. We built a passively heated and cooled, wood-framed, strawbale house with earth plaster finish. We live in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains, near Scotts Valley, in a small valley meadow surrounded by redwood and oak forest, a 20 minute ride down to the ocean and city of Santa Cruz, to small mountain towns and the river, or 45 minutes over the mountains to San Jose and access to the rest of the San Francisco bay area. Samantha works from home in the mornings. Garrick works in San Jose or Santa Cruz in the afternoons and can take you there to explore or connect to transit.
We can have one person in our loft, but can accept up to 4 people to camp in our woods. The campsite includes water and electricity, an outdoor shower, outdoor kitchen set-up, and use of our toilet through backdoor. If you camp, you will need a car so that you can go buy food and fuel as needed.
