    Description

Hello! We are a 50+yr old couple with two teens and a 21yr old (who has their own travel plans so may not be here). We could do with some help gardening, home steading and DIY projects at our quiet, rural location along the banks of Lough Foyle, County Donegal. Our place is just 20 minutes drive from Derry City, with stunning beaches on the Wild Atlantic Way the same distance in the opposite direction. We are an easy going family and have always enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. We would expect only a few hours work a day in return for accommodation and food. We'd be happy to share any local knowledge that might help you enjoy exploring this region.

There's a good music scene in nearby Derry City, with all genres to choose from. Museums and art galleries and theatres can also be found there as well as in the town of Letterkenny about 40mins drive away. Closer to our house is a small village with a pub where the atmosphere is good.

Ideally we seek someone who can do a bit of DIY both indoors and out as there are a few jobs to be completed here e.g creating steps with sleepers outdoors. We also want to reinstate our raised beds and chicken run after some time away. If you aren't handy with wood or a strimmer but enjoy sharing your language, cooking skills and culture with teenagers then you'll be very welcome here as well.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a static caravan in our garden where you will have your own space and privacy during your stay. It's pretty basic and well worn but has three bedrooms and a typical caravan shower room and a separate toilet. The kitchen has everything needed to cook for yourself and we can provide anything not already in place. Plenty of space for parking campers, cars or pitching tents if you prefer. In return for work we are happy to provide accommodation and food. We'll make sure to have the basics stocked up in the caravan for your arrival. We can discuss meal preparation according to what the plan is each day and do grocery shopping to suit. Please let us know if there are any allergies we should be aware of.

    What else ...

We don't mind travelers with buddies, groups or families and even pets are welcome as there is plenty of space around the caravan and we currently have no animals of our own. We enjoy a lot of quiet here and might not provide enough excitement for someone who likes a faster pace. We do a lot of sea swimming/body boarding, walking on beaches and in forests and hanging out in our garden on warm days. Board games take up as much space on our shelves as books so if you enjoy playing, you'll be a welcome addition around our table.
Public transport does exist but is limited so having your own vehicle would be an advantage. We have some bikes you can borrow if that's your thing and with one adult working from home there's usually a lot of flexibility for giving lifts to places of interest.

An ethernet cable has been installed out to the static caravan but no wifi as yet (May 2022). High speed broadband. I use my laptop in the space out there for video meetings and it's usually very stable; haven't had any problems so far. We have Wi-Fi in our own house that can be used if needed.
