Description
We are a family of five: Tom (builder, coach & body worker), Juliana (relationship coach), Hazel (10 year old fairy), Aspen, our very alive toddler and Evren, our 2 month old baby boy.
We are building a space of community, learning and nourishment. The land is dedicated as a place for people to come to learn and grow and develop important life skills. Skills such as Permaculture. Earth building. Feldenkrais body work. Qigong energy work. Hunting. Foraging. Growing food. Meditation. Fermentation. Wild foods. Movement and play. Medicinal plants. Eating weeds.
We need helpers to come help us finish our straw bale house that has been 10 years in the making and we are so close to finishing. We anlso have a variety of gardening annd manteinance to do… our property is big and growing a food forest takes work!
Any skills in building/painting/engineering/gardening is greatly welcomed!
On the main dwelling (a strawbale house). We have a big kitchen with gas, electric oven and a fireplace. There is a composting bucket toilet system for now. We have an office with a spare room for someone to sleep in, and a double mattress that can be put in the lounge or the bedroom if we have more people.
We also have plenty of space outside to pitching up tents, parking your own camper van and also at the moment we have a spare straw ale building with a bed you could stay in!
A little about the land:
I have a strong permaculture passion and have been developing a food forest here. There are 2 other buildings on the property. A tiny house and a strawbale cottage. There are 2 other's who live in these buildings. The land is set in a national park. There are lots of tree's, birds and insects around. It is very alive, and walking tracks to explore from home and Arataki Centre which is onyl 15 min walk from our home.
We are omnivorous. We try to eat as local and fresh as possible. We also like to eat weeds which happy to teach you about if you're interested in.
in exchange of 3 hours of work a day you will get your own little sleep out, and some casual dinners, if you are also omnivore.
PLEASE NOTE: We live at the end of a dead end road, Parker Road, and it’s a 30 minute walk until you reach a bus stop (with not very frequent buses). So, if you are on a working holiday and need to buy/sell a car, I don’t recommend starting or finishing your trip with us because buying/selling a car will be hard to do from here.
In a car, you are 10 min away from shops, and 30 minutes away from the city centre and airport.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
I would like to work with people who are really interested in learning about earthbuilding and have a passion for this type of stuff. I would like to hang out with and meet some cool people and get some good work done on this house too. I intend for it to be finished by this summer! There's a lot of work to do!
Right now the priority is to finish our straw bale house and also help with just maintain an e as it is hard with a newborn!
That is a bit of installing wooden floors, outdoor decks and plastering and lime plastering the walls to finish. Plus all the creative work of making the house look like a out of a fantasy tale.
We also need to clear some weeds from the field, and helping with entertaining Aspen is also very welcome.
Some carpentry skills would be awsome.Languages
