I'm a male Kenyan citizen aged 41 years working with a Community Based Organization in Kitenyi village, Mfangano Island-Kenya.
I'm from a typical African family with several brothers and sisters who stay in a closely knit family unit. I stay in my home with my beautiful wife Hellen and our son Innocent who's out in a boarding High School most of the year and is only home during school holidays.
I'm a born fisherman and with a professional background in Project Planning and Management. I believe in getting things done within Time, Cost and to the expected Quality.
I'm a co-founder and the current Chairman of HOPE, a Community Based Organization which coordinates a number of community projects in the remote Island community of Mfangano aimed at improving the communities quality of life. Our primary focus are:
Access to quality, affordable and reliable health services still remains a great challenge for most Kenyans especially to those living in remote and rural hard to reach areas like Mfangano Island. These communities contribute greatly to the high numbers of negative health outcomes especially maternal and neonatal deaths in Kenya. Homa Bay county is among the top Ten leading counties in maternal and neonatal deaths in Kenya. Unskilled births, alternative medicines (herbs) and delays in recognizing need for care, delay in reaching care and delay in receiving appropriate care are major drivers of poor health outcomes within Mfangano.
At HOPE community medical clinic,we work with a team of 40 community health volunteers who serve as the primary contacts within the community.
The CHVs are trained in basic first aid and serve as first responders offering first aid, emergency care
coordination within the Island.
We plan to conduct several medical camps/outreaches in the community from July 20th Through to August 30Th. We're calling upon medical volunteers to join us in these events.
Though the government of Kenya has made remarkable strides in ensuring that all pupils gets quality and affordable education as outline in the constitution, the affordable cost is not affordable cross board. There are a number of families still struggling to keep their children in school. HIV/AIDS left a trail of deaths in the early 80s and 90s killing either one or both parents in several households of these fisher folks. The effect is till being felt to date with single parents or total orphans struggling to make ends meet.
We believe that the best way to pull these struggling families out of the generational poverty is by supporting bright needy students from such families to get quality education.
To this end, has partnered with Education for All Children (EFAC) and Kenya Education Fund (KEF) to identify and link bright needy and deserving pupils from the Island with these two scholarship organizations. So far, seventeen (17) students have be supported through this partnership.
We also support Kitenyi primary School Pre-school grade pupils with essential learning and playing materials to keep them in school. This has greatly increased the number of new enrollments and retention of early grades pupils.
Join us is construction of a new classroom for Early Years Education pupils aged 4 to 7 in Uzuwi village in Mfangano Island. The pupils from this community are seriously disadvantaged because the nearest schools to their community are over 6Kms. This makes them to start school at very late age.

Volunteering here comes with immense benefits. The volunteers will have the opportunity to connect directly with the loving, peaceful and welcoming people the Suba community who migrated from Uganda and settled in Mfangano Island several generations ago.
The volunteers will learn about the culture and way of life of the Suba people who are still rich in cultural practices, they'll have the opportunity to visit traditional rock paintings and sacred ancestral homes of the first ancestors to settle in Mfangano which have been preserved for their cultural significance.
Being a fishing community, volunteers will be taken for boat safaris and fishing trips to catch their own fish for lunch or dinner. You don't have to be a fishing guru, we have all the trusted fishing gears and a team of professional fishermen who will make your fishing trips fun moments.
Get the opportunity to enjoy freshly prepared local dishes with the signature dish being Ugali and Fish.
Mfangano Island sits on the expansive waters of Lake Victoria on the Kenya Uganda borders. This offers spectacular view of the sun sets every evening.
With so many lose running parts, we need help with volunteers for some very specific and general task.
We need volunteers who can help our community health workers with trainings on First Aid and Wilderness first responder.Equipping our community health workers with these critical life saving skills will greatly improve their role as first contact persons in the community.
Volunteers with IT,grant proposal writings, Web design and online marketing are also welcome to help us have a global presence, fundraising and to develop a business model on how the clinic can be sustained.
We need help in designing and construction of outdoor playing ground for the pre-school kids at Kitenyi Primary school. For those who love kids,we got your back, come and share the fun with pre-school kids as they take their first lessons of letters, numbers and colors. Have your water paints and brush handy.
Though the government covers most of the tuition fee, some students cannot still afford the remainder of the fees and other basic learning materials. We need volunteers who can help with online fundraising for the bright needy and deserving students so that they can remain in school.
