Description
I am a wildlife veterinarian currently working on a one year internship in Manitoba, Canada where I work mostly with raptors, songbirds, small mammals, and reptiles. I live with my senior dog and two young cats about 20 minutes outside of Winnipeg. I am originally from the USA and my partner and family are back in California. I am looking for help caring for my senior dog while I am at work as well as help around the house (mainly grocery shopping and cooking). I am also hoping to find an adventure buddy to explore Canada with on my days off! I love camping, hiking, and want to get into cross country skiing and skating. I also like to try new breweries, coffee shops, and restaurants.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I am originally from California, USA, but have lived in Oregon and Alaska. I have lived in Canada for 7 months now, so I am interested in exploring the culture and opportunities here with someone! I hope to go to hockey games, try curling, and discover all the lakes and hiking trails in Manitoba.
I can help with English language exchange and teach about animals, wildlife, and veterinary medicine. I have worked in Germany, Ireland, and Brazil through various workaway experiences and have enjoyed each experience. I hope to connect with others interested in exploring the world and learning about other cultures.
Help
I am mostly hoping for help with my dog while I am at work. He is an older dog with a number of different issues, so he needs to be let outside fairly often and it is common for him to pee in the house. I would love to have someone around to let him out or help wash pee pads (I don't have a washer or dryer, so I wash things in the bathtub and hang to dry).
Additionally, I have a few trips planned for work and would like someone to stay at my house to take care of the animals while I am gone.
Finally, not required, but I am a terrible cook and would love if someone was interested in helping me grocery shop and cook.

Accommodation
I have a small 2 bedroom apartment. The second bedroom can be set up with an inflatable mattress for your own use. You will have full access to the living room and kitchen. Wifi is available. There is a coin-op laundry in the building.
I am vegetarian, but do have some meat in the house for the animals.
Food will be provided. Alternatively, Workawayers may be provided with money for grocery shopping and cooking.
What else ...
Winnipeg is a city with a thriving food scene and plenty of entertainment. Manitoba is also home to thousands of lakes and fun outdoor adventures.
Lorette is outside the city, so transportation can be difficult without a car, but you are welcome to use mine if I do not need it or if you can drop me off/pick me up from work. We can work out details so you are able to explore when you want to!
