Description
We are an international language school and cultural center run by a non-profit organization. We are located near the center of the village of Mazunte on the Oaxaca Coast, on a hill with beautiful sea view and always touched by a fresh breeze.
Since 2010, we've been offering immersive Spanish classes to travelers and foreign residents worldwide. Additionally, we host English classes for the local community and others languages classes. Our project is not just a school, it's a space that functions as a place of exchange for different people and cultures and that is, for all students and visitors of Instituto Iguana, a welcoming place to arrive, relax and enjoy.
Founded in 2005 by Mexican and German friends (Ana & Eule), the project is now led by Ana and Elsa. As a volunteer, you'll be an integral part of our team, working closely with them both and with our teacher's team.
Ana and Eule, the school's founders, spend part of the year living at the school. Panuncio, responsible for gardens, cleaning, and maintenance, ensures the school remains a safe and welcoming space.Types of help and learning opportunities

HELP WITH SCHOOL FACILITIES (Fluent Spanish and English)
Our high season lasts from December until March-April. If you join us, here's what you'll be doing F+from Monday to Friday, 9 am–2 pm:
- Reception: Welcome and register new students, respond to online messages, update the student database in Excel, process payments, organize teaching materials and act as a bridge between students, teachers, and the coordinator.
- Shared Spaces: Maintain a tidy reception area and keep shared spaces clean (especially the kitchen), creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
- Community Activities: Organizing conversation clubs, movie nights, or community events.
- English Program Development: (Depending on the volunteer's skills) We’re starting to structure an English program for adults and kids and are looking for people with teaching experience who want to help build the program.
- Marketing Support: Help with Social Media content (depending on the volunteer's skills) and distribute school flyers in designated spots around the village.
Requirements: To be fluent in Spanish and English (or at least intermediate-advanced), organized, and familiar with Word, Excel, and Google Suite. If you love connecting with people, and working with a dynamic team, we want to meet you!Languages spoken

We offer a small private room with a bed to sleep and a little cupboard to put your stuff in. Shared bathroom. Shared kitchen. Free Internet (Starlink). Free potable water and a small weekly financial aid for food.
What else ...
We're an intercultural team from Mexico, Germany, Spain, Argentina and France, along with our friendly dog and four cats. Smoking is permitted. Our school is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the beach, offering various activities like swimming, snorkeling, diving, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, and opportunities for whale, dolphin, and turtle watching. Public transport options include pickups and taxis, but since the village is small, walking is an easy option. The nearest airports, Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, are both just a 1-hour drive away.

My whole experience at Iguana school was amazing.
I had a private room and lived with Ana and her beautiful family. The work was very easy and everyone was very nice.
In my spare time I did Spanish lessons, went to the beach and did yoga. Mazunte is a small magical town and it's easy to meet… read more
