    Description

Enjoy a stay near Freiburg at the edge of the beautiful Black Forest! You’ll have a private room in a spacious home, with the bus stop right outside giving quick access to Freiburg’s lively university city, while nature and hiking trails are just a short walk away.

I’m a divorced father living here on my own. The house used to belong to a family of five, and now it’s simply too big for me to maintain while working full time. I’m looking for someone who can help with light garden and household tasks, and who would also enjoy sharing space, meals, and everyday life.

This is a relaxed, down-to-earth exchange. You’ll get to experience local life in a quiet neighborhood, help keep a small garden and home in shape, and have the freedom to explore both Freiburg and the Black Forest at your own pace. It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys a mix of independence, shared time, and practical tasks — and if you’d like to practice some German, I’ll gladly help informally.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I’m only at home part of the time, so the cultural exchange here is relaxed and low-key. I enjoy meeting new people, love traveling, and am happy to chat in English (and a little French).

While helping in the garden or around the house, you’ll likely meet friendly neighbors, giving you a taste of everyday local life. The bus stop right at the house puts Freiburg within easy reach — a vibrant university city with a lively atmosphere, plenty of cultural events, and lots of opportunities to meet new people.

Hosting someone from another culture is a chance for me to hear new stories and perspectives, and for you to experience everyday life in this part of Germany. It’s a simple, down-to-earth exchange, with plenty of freedom to choose how much you help, explore, or spend time together — perfect for someone who enjoys a mix of independence, shared meals, and conversation. If you’d like to practice your German, I’m happy to spend some time helping — I’m no teacher, but I’ve already helped friends abroad improve their German in a relaxed way.

Spring is here and the garden is growing fast! I’m looking for a practical person to help me stay on top of things and assist with a gradual house clear-out as I prepare to sell the property in the coming months.

    🍃 In the Garden:
It’s a spring "reset"—straightforward tasks that can be done at your own pace:

Trimming & Weeding: Keeping the roses, hedges, and flower beds tidy.

The "Lawn" Reset: Helping me reclaim an overgrown area (mostly dandelions) so it looks like a yard again.

Planting: Putting in some simple perennials to keep the weeds at bay.

    🏠 House & Maintenance:
We are taking things step-by-step. Depending on the weather and how long you stay, help is needed with:

Windows: Cleaning the wooden windows and doing some light sanding/painting to refresh them.

Sorting & Clearing: Helping me go through the basement or cupboards to organize what stays and what goes.

Item Photos: Taking simple photos of items (tools, furniture, etc.) so I can list them to sell or give away.

    The Vibe:
There’s no rush to finish everything at once. Most tasks can be done independently while I’m at work. No professional experience is needed, just a practical attitude and a helpful pair of hands!

    Accommodation

You’ll have your own private room, formerly one of the children’s rooms, with a bed, wardrobe, and lock for privacy.

The house is large, so there aren’t completely separate areas, and the kitchen is always accessible. We can coordinate shared meals, and I enjoy cooking and baking — I’m happy to prepare regional dishes or cakes together if you’d like.

    What else ...

The neighborhood is very quiet, so it’s easy to relax and sleep well at night. Freiburg is lively and vibrant even in the evenings, offering plenty of cultural and social opportunities. Internet connection is very good, so you can stay connected, work, or stream as needed.
