    Description

We are Dan and Fran - an American/Swiss couple. We rejuvenated and cared for a 1.5 hectar property in the Andean mountains of Ecuador for over 10 years before relocating to our current home here in the Spanish Sierra Nevada.
At 1'400m our Cortijo is nestled in the foothills of the Mulhacén with views of 3 white villages. Our place is the last house on a gravel road - the closest village is an hour drive away. Living in and with nature, trying to be good stewards of our land and creating a healthy and happy environment are our goals. Our water source is a well, electricity and hot water are generated with solar. Living surrounded by quiet nature is a wonderful luxury!

Experiencing a different lifestyle, relying on the sun for electricity and hot water, enjoy silence and reading a book.
Getting to know locals - many of them farmers.
Hiking an area rich with old morish history (asequias, stone cortijos, dry stacked stone walls) and visiting some of the most beautiful white villages of the Alpujarra will add a lot of cultural knowledge for someone interested.
A possibility to observe local meetings (requires knowledge of the spanish language), shop at local markets or witness an ITV test (yearly spanish car inspection) are only a few of the many things that are accessible for interested visitors.
We speak german, english, spanish and french. Extensive knowledge in gardening, renewable energy and working with the land.
Any knowledge shared is welcome! We consider broadening horizons an essential part of life.
