    Description

I manage a small woodland where we run Forest School and other educational activities for adults and children. I live with my partner in a detached cottage on the edge of the Somerset Levels, with a large garden and the use of a small woodland.
We are a couple who try to live an ecologically sound life, eat organic meat & vegetables, and join in local community groups. We have grown up children and grandchildren.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Somerset Levels have a unique cultural heritage famous for floods, waterways and willow growing! There are major willow growing farms nearby and we have our own boats for use on the River Parrett. We harvest our own willow for basket making and weaving hurdles. We also gather wild materials locally for hedgerow basketry and natural dyes. We use local wool for weaving and spinning.

As well as helping in the garden, you will have the opportunity to help manage and maintain our woodland camp with outdoor kitchen and compost toilet. There are opportunities to help with promoting our activities on the computer, also to join in the fun of helping support children and adults on our courses. My partner is a stone mason & carver, and is happy to teach stone carving skills.
I speak Spanish and French and have family living in France.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You would have the use of our comfortable caravan with internet access & electrical hook up for heat, fridge & light etc. for sleeping and chill out time. There is a gas cooker to make hot drinks and cook if you want to be independent, but we would offer lunch and evening meal to share with us in the house. We eat meat & fish about 3 times a week, but vegetarians can be catered for. You would need to sort your own breakfast, we can supply food for this, depending on your requirements.
Internet coverage in the caravan is limited to 4g, but there is space within the house to use wifi .
We are quite informal and we would work out the best schedule to suit us all.

We live on the edge of a small village. It has a thriving pub, but the nearest shop is 2km away. We have 2 bicycles that would be availble for volunteers to use.
There is a bus service that comes 1 mile away.
Buses go to Glastonbury which is full of interesting shops, its ancient abbey and the Tor, also Wells with its famous cathedral. There are local potters and cider farms nearby that welcome visitors.
