Description
We are Emilia (teacher of Fine Arts, Maths and English) and Bastian (carpenter, building tiny houses). Together with our two kids (3 years old and 1 baby) and a flock of chicken we live in an old farmhouse in the countryside of Bad Urach-Hengen, South of Germany (50km from Stuttgart). After a long time of travelling (and also doing a lot of workaway :-) ) we decided to settle down in the heart of this small village with its warm-hearted citizen, restore the old farmhouse using only natural and sustainable construction material and live, enjoy and appreciate the nature surrounding us. It turned into a life and art project we don't want to miss anymore.

We live within cycling and hiking distance of the immense 82.000 ha Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve, within cycling distance of 3 beautiful castle ruins (Hohenneuffen Castle, Hohenwittlingen Castle and Hohenurach Castle), 1 castle (Burg Teck), different caves and the 37 high waterfall in Bad Urach. After a long day you can even choose between two different healthy thermal springs, one in Bad Urach, the other one in Beuren. If you are interested in paragliding or climbing we can also show you some popular spots or introduce you to other paragliders. An ukulele is also present at almost any time to fill the garden and the air with notes and lyrics, sizzling a steak on the camp fire in the huge garden...

Help
You are invited to learn about our way of life and there are many different things you can help with. At the moment it would be great if you would like to prove your muscles by helping with our huge garden, creating an innovating playground for our little son and for all people dropping in. Or, alternatively, in the house, a new bathroom is under construction, in the old shepherd wagon and in the barn/frontyard, where we are constructing a tiny house just using sustainable and ecologic material like sheep wool, wood,...
So it might be good if you tell us about what you are good in or about the kind of work you have fun with...Languages spoken

We enjoy the cultural experiences of having travelers to stay with us and enjoy working, laughing and living together. As there are our two little sunshines with all its duties it is often hard to manage to accompany you to sights but we try to do our best and are willing to help you to come around. We expect you to work 3 hours per day, 5 days a week, if in the morning or in the afternoon that is what we can arrange together.
(5 hours a day, 5 days a week, including food could also be an option, but depends on the kind of work we're in in that moment and on our energy we have left to cook 😉)
In exchange we can offer you language practice, a bed and some space in the kitchen/fridge for your own food that you can buy for yourself at the local corner shop, at farms around, in the big supermarket or on the local market in Bad Urach, so that - if we both feel like - we can lump all things together and turn them into tasty and delicious dishes served on the inviting porch if the weather is fine :-)What else ...
We do our best to live a chemical free life, which includes organic foods and our garden and orchard are chemical free as our interests are towards organic and Bio-dynamic gardening. We, our neighbours and many others in this small village are open-minded people and have a welcoming attitude. We really enjoy meeting new people, on our trip we even ran a backpacker hostel and at home now we are/were in close contact with Poles, Americans, Peruvians, Swedes, Italians, Syrians, French, Austrians, the Chinese, ...people we or friends met travelling or people who moved to the village for a period o time - some of them also settled down here.
