How would you like the chance to help with a fun backpacker tour business on the beautiful southern coast of Portugal? Based in the epic town of Lagos, I am the sole owner/operator, but one that can't get by without help from my mates and many awesome workawayers. My name is Brodie and I'm a 43 year old Aussie bloke that has been running these fun little tours for the last 14 years. We primarily run day tours of the Algarve, however also have longer tours throughout Portugal and Spain for the Running of the Bulls, La Tomatina, music festivals and the Peniche Rip Curl Pro. As I grow older and I notice the Lagos clientele changing I have made changes to my tours to attract people of all ages, I started out as a backpacker travel company, but now offer tours that suit most demographics. While my main tour up until two years ago was 'Swim and Chill at Benagil' a tour involving a swim into the world renowned cave, my main tours now are 'Wine Not - An Algarve Winery Tour' and my historical and informative walking tour of Lagos.

Our road-trips offer a fun alternative for travellers, trying to encourage people to travel with more freedom than most organised tours would allow. I am and will always be a vagabond, travel is about forgetting some of the creature comforts of home and embracing new surroundings. Lagos is an incredible place full of amazing people and gorgeous beaches and nature.

This is a great opportunity to learn all aspects of running your own tour business. When I was 23 I started travelling Europe and constantly had great ideas on what was missing or what I could offer, it wasn't until I started this project that I was able to see these ideas in action and learn what it takes to turn such ideas into a lifestyle.

By living here with me you will also have the chance to learn Portuguese with myself and many of our cultural visits throughout Portugal will enhance your language skills. We take road-trips to San Fermin in July, La Tomatina in August and the Peniche Rip Curl Pro in October, so if you are around in any of those months you will have the chance to attend major events on the European calendar.

The season starts around Easter, however we don't require any help running tours until the busy months from June - September. The main role for workawayers is helping guide tours alongside myself or sometimes alone in a 9 seat manual van. I'm also looking for Workawayers with skills in Word Press, SEO, design and social media marketing. I had my website updated by a house sitting workawayer last winter, but have a lot of changes and additions I'd like to make so WordPress skills are one of the things I most desire from any workawayers. I'm starting to take more online bookings through our website and online travel agencies with an aim to increase this two-fold in 2026. Together we will be working on strategies to increase both numbers of followers on our social media accounts and to direct more people to our website. Any skills in photography or video/video editing would be ideal as we take photos of each of our tours and would love to have more online content.

A significant part of this Workaway experience involves driving and therefore any workawayers need to be capable and confident drivers (with a manual license) as you will be responsible for driving and guiding alongside myself (and sometimes alone or with your partner) in a 9-seat manual transmission van. Once we arrive at our destination for the day it's just about keeping everyone happy and entertained and the best way to do that is by having a fun time yourself. As my walking tours have really taken off recently and I'm going through divorce, I'm looking more for someone (or a couple) that are confident taking the tours on their own a few days a week. I will provide all the support required in preparation for the tours, but this will give my workawayers a great chance to earn tips for their work. An average tip for my Wine Not tours is €30 and as I look to fill the vans more often in 2026 this could easily be more.

When not taking tours, I love my workawayers to be out promoting for upcoming trips. This can be as simple as a day on the local beach or an afternoon spent hanging out in Lagos. Therefore any skills in sales would be highly appreciated. Sales for any tours will also result in earning commissions, so workawayers will have a great chance to earn money in a beautiful cheap location while having their main expenses of a ccomodation and food looked after.

The volunteering will be 5 days a week with 2 free days, which you’ll definitely enjoy in this place.

I've recently been divorced, but thankfully still have custody of my amazing 4 year old daughter, Paislee for half the week, Sunday to Tuesday, then Saturday til Tuesday. At the end of May we'll be moving to our brand new house. A two bedroom mobile home I've purchased stationed in the Orbitur Luz campsite, just 5km from Lagos and 2km from Luz beach and town. The house is relatively simple, with two double bedrooms, one of which I will stay in alone and then with my daughter for half the week and the other could accommodate either a single workawayer or a couple, not really ideal for friends. Obviously on the nights I put Paislee to bed I would need any workawayers to respect our privacy. I normally get her to sleep before 8,30pm and am happy to hang out with you in our living space after this. As Paislee is the most important thing in my life, I need any prospective workawayers to love kids, have great smiles and only bring positivity to mine and Pais's life.

The campsite itself has a massive swimming pool and a cool bar and restaurant, which will be broadcasting the World Cup on outdoor screens this summer and hosts live music three days a week. To get to Lagos, the walk is approximately one hour, although I endeavour to have two vans at my residence this year so the drive is just five minutes. If you're having a night out an uber is as little as €5-7.

In your free-time there's endless possibilities. Lagos and the Algarve are full of great restaurants and bars, so I'm sure you'd like to visit many of these - we certainly do. I also organise a free walking tour of the town as I have an interest in the Portuguese history and culture. I can teach you a great deal about this history whilst there are also many museums and attractions in particular detailing the great era in Portuguese history known as 'The Age of Discoveries'.

Lagos is a mere four hours away from both Seville and Lisbon, so if you’d like to visit the big smoke these are two of Europe’s most beautiful and awe-inspiring cities. More than 300 sunny days a year means that you're almost guaranteed great weather and the pool or the beach is never far away.
