    Description

    Hello!
We are a small family living in Colombia and we are looking for a meaningful cultural and language exchange experience. I work on digital and professional projects, and one of my main personal goals is to improve my conversational English, as I want to work remotely with U.S.-based companies where English communication is essential.

My English level is basic to intermediate, so I am looking for someone patient and friendly who enjoys natural conversation. Perfect Spanish is not required; having some basic knowledge or interest in learning Spanish is more than enough.

We believe languages are best learned through daily life, shared routines, and real interaction rather than only formal lessons.

We live in a peaceful Colombian town with a strong sense of community and traditional culture. It is an ideal place for travelers who want a true immersion experience, practice Spanish every day, and understand local life beyond tourism.

The area is safe, calm, and perfect for people who value cultural exchange, simple living, and meaningful human connections.

I live with my daughter, who is a school-aged child. She is curious, respectful, and enjoys learning about other cultures and languages.

At home, the main help we expect is language exchange, especially daily conversations in English with me, as well as simple shared activities. We value responsibility, kindness, clear communication, and respect for a family environment.

We would like to start with short stays (around one month). If the experience is positive and both the host and the volunteer feel comfortable, the stay can be extended to two or three months by mutual agreement, depending on the volunteer’s interest and availability.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The cultural exchange at our place is based on daily family life, language learning, and real immersion in Colombian culture. Workawayers will be part of our everyday routines, sharing meals, conversations, and simple activities, which creates a natural and meaningful exchange.

They will have the opportunity to practice Spanish on a daily basis, both at home and in the local community, including a school environment where Spanish is spoken all the time. This offers a very authentic immersion experience beyond tourism.

We enjoy social activities such as family time, local walks, community events, and informal gatherings. Workawayers are welcome to join us and experience how people live, communicate, and interact in our town.

In return, we hope to learn and improve our conversational English, cultural perspectives, and communication skills. Hosting people from different countries allows us, especially my daughter, to grow with a broader view of the world, respect for diversity, and curiosity about other cultures.

This exchange is built on mutual respect, openness, and shared learning, where both the host and the Workawayer benefit equally.

  • Help

    Help

We are mainly looking for language exchange and cultural interaction, rather than heavy or physical work. The help is light, structured, and focused on communication.

    The main activities include:

Conversational English practice with me on a daily basis (informal conversations, daily routines, simple discussions).

Sharing English in a natural way with my daughter, through games, reading, pronunciation practice, or everyday activities.

Tasks are usually done together, and the exchange is mutual. While the Workawayer helps us practice English, they will have a full Spanish immersion experience, both at home and in the school and community environment.

There is no need to be a professional teacher. What we value most is a positive attitude, patience, willingness to communicate, and interest in cultural exchange. In return, we are happy to help the Workawayer practice Spanish, learn about Colombian culture, and be part of our daily family life.

This host offers a language exchange
Spanish is our native language, and we are happy to help Workawayers practice Spanish in a natural and immersive way, both at home and in the local community. I am currently learning English and especially interested in improving my conversational skills for professional and remote work purposes. My level is basic to intermediate, so I really value patience, clear pronunciation, and daily conversation rather than formal lessons. The language exchange is based on real-life interaction: conversations, shared activities, games, reading, and everyday routines. We believe this is the most effective and enjoyable way to learn a language for both adults and children.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer a clean, safe, and comfortable place to stay in our home. The accommodation consists of one private room and a sofa bed, depending on availability and mutual agreement. While the space is not very large, it is cozy, welcoming, and well cared for, providing a comfortable environment to rest and feel at home.

Workawayers will have access to a bathroom, shared living areas, and basic amenities. Clean bedding and a secure sleeping space are always provided.

Regarding food, we usually share meals as a family, and Workawayers are welcome to join us. We enjoy simple, homemade Colombian food. We can discuss preferences or dietary needs in advance to make sure the arrangement works well for everyone.

This is a family home, so we value respect, cleanliness, and open communication to ensure a positive experience for both the host and the Workawayer.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

During their time off, Workawayers can enjoy a calm local lifestyle. The town is ideal for walking, exploring nearby areas, visiting local markets, and experiencing everyday Colombian life. There are basic public transport options to nearby towns and cities, and we are happy to explain how to move around once they arrive.

We live a simple, family-oriented lifestyle. Our home is a calm and respectful space, so we value good communication, cleanliness, and mutual respect. This is not a party environment.

Because we live with a child, we expect responsible behavior, respect for family routines, and a positive attitude toward shared spaces. House rules are simple and will be discussed clearly in advance to make sure expectations are aligned.

We are open to flexibility, dialogue, and mutual agreements, as we believe good communication is key to a successful Workaway experience.

    Can host digital nomads

Digital nomads are very welcome in our home. We understand the importance of having time and a quiet environment to work online. The help we ask for is light and well defined, mainly focused on language exchange and shared activities, so it can be easily combined with remote work. The daily schedule is flexible and agreed in advance, which allows Workawayers to organize their working hours comfortably. Internet access is available, and while this is not a coworking space, it is suitable for focused online work in a calm home environment. We value clear communication, planning, and balance between responsibilities and personal time. This experience works best for digital nomads who enjoy cultural exchange, family life, and a slower, more meaningful rhythm outside of work.
