Description
Hello,
My name is Luca and I manage a traditional restaurant in the Italian-speaking part of the Swiss Alps.
The philosophy behind Grotto Efra is to serve traditional, local (KM0) cuisine in a natural setting, surrounded by mountains, rivers, and untouched landscapes, while consciously avoiding products from large corporations. We focus on quality, sustainability, and respect for the territory.
We are a small, dynamic, and close-knit team, working in a collaborative and respectful environment. We are looking for people who share our values, enjoy teamwork, and are willing to live and work in a very rural alpine area, immersed in nature.
About me: I’m 40 years old and my hobbies include kiteboarding, sailing, ice hockey, photography, hiking, reading, and traveling.
I hope to see you soon in the Verzasca Valley.
Types of help and learning opportunities
Hospitality/Tourism

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
- We are located in the heart of Europe and welcome guests from many different countries. This creates a rich cultural exchange and a multilingual environment.
- The surroundings are truly exceptional, especially for those who enjoy hiking, climbing, paragliding, fishing, mountain biking, and outdoor activities in general.
- You will learn how to work as a waiter/waitress in a small, dynamic team, gaining hands-on experience in a traditional restaurant. If interested, there is also the possibility to collaborate with the kitchen and broaden your skills.
The nearby river and the untouched nature make this place unique — if you love the outdoors, you will feel at home here.

Help
- We are looking for a highly motivated waiter/waitress to join our team for the summer season (May to the end of October).
The position is 100% (and sometimes more), but don’t worry — you will be paid accordingly:
CHF 21.– per hour (gross salary), plus a share of the tips, which are collected, shared with the entire team, and split at the end of each month.
- As we are based in Switzerland (a non-EU country), a work permit is required. For this reason, applicants must be citizens of the Schengen Area.
- ⚠️ Very good Italian skills are essential and mandatory, as Italian is the main working language.
German skills are highly appreciated and considered a strong advantage.
- Previous experience in hospitality is not strictly required. What we value most are kindness, empathy, motivation, and a genuine willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
- Preference will be given to candidates who are available for the entire season.

Accommodation
Shared house with part of the team. Private room with shared bathroom and shared kitchen.

What else ...
You will be hosted in Sonogno, in the upper Verzasca Valley:
- The closest town is Locarno, approximately 35 km away.
- Public transport connections are good during the day, with regular bus services, but limited in the evenings and at night. For this reason, this position is ideal for people who enjoy peace, nature, and a quiet lifestyle rather than nightlife or partying.
-The nearest grocery shop for food and drinks is located 8 km away.
- Beautiful hiking trails start directly from the village, and there is a 7 km mountain bike trail nearby.
Rivers and forests are all around you — you simply need to step outside the house to be immersed in wild, unspoiled nature.
