The Ecolodge is a small lodge located on the Island of the Sun (or Isla del Sol) in the Titicaca Lake of Bolivia. We are a family business that works together with the local community. We have 15 cottages where we receive guests from all over the world. We have been running for 20 years. We are continously working on trying to become more and more eco-friendly, from the way we build the cottages, to the way we manage our water and the food we provide for our guests. Our gardens are of big importance to us because we want to preserve the local flora and fauna; our guests enjoy seating on the benches outside and enjoying the view.

The Island of the Sun is one of the top attractions in Bolivia precisely because of its cultural richness. Volunteers will be fully immersed with the local culture as the entire staff is local. At the lodge we also provide different cultural exchange opportunities for our guest in which volunteers can take part, such as visiting our neighbors, listenting to a band of local musicians, taking part of a ceremony.
Being an Island in the middle of the Lake, many aspects of the local culture have still remained intact.
Millions of tourist visit this Island because of its energetical importance; come stay with us if you are interested in spending time in a unique place on earth. Staying with us will also provide a great opportunity for volunteers to exchange with tourist that come visit us from all over the world.
Volunteers greatly enjoy the opportunity of spending time with the local staff which allows them to learn more about the aymara culture at Isla del Sol.
We are a small Ecolodge wtih 15 cottages located on Isla del Sol in Titicaca Lake, Bolivia. We need help with our garden and greenhouse. We currently have a gardener who works 2-3 times a week but we need more support for the garden.
Currently we are re-planting native plants all around the garden, building a small herb garden and growing vegetables in the greenhouse. We are looking for people who love spending time outdoors relating to plants. Currently the goal is to restore the native habitat by re-introducing local plants and trees, growing a medicinal herb garden and producing vegetables for use at the lodge´s restaurant. This is our priority work for our volunteers. An important aspect of this is watering the garden and greenhouse which is a daily task for our volunteers; we also need volunteers to take care of the compost.
As part of this we want to create a tour for our guests so that they can learn about native flora and fauna; for this we need to create signs with names of the plants, improve our outdoor benches/seating areas, and improve our paths for which our volunteers will be of great help.
Sometimes we may need help with some general maintainance work such as repairing chairs and tables, repairing shower-heads, or fixing doors or windows in the rooms.
We can accomodate up to two volunteers at a time in a double room. Occassionally they may have to share the room with staff or tour guides.
Food at the lodge is provided for all the staff, volunteers will share cooking and washing dishes responsibilities with the rest of the staff. Breakfast, lunch, coffee break and dinner will be provided.
During the day sun is very intense so bring light colored long sleeved shirts, hat, sun shades, and suncreen. At night it get quite cold so bring warm cloths (including gloves, scarfa, and hat).
The Island of the Sun is the best place to do hike of various lengths. Enjoy a walk down to any of the harbors for a swim in the Lake (very cold though!), visit the Island of the Moon accross from us, enjoy the peace and tranquility for yoga or meditation. At the Island of the Sun there is no form of transportation other than walking. You can take boats to visit the Island of the Moon or go back to Copacabana, the closest city in the Bolivian side of the Lake.
