Hi we are Bob and Diaz two brothers who lives in capitol of West Borneo called Pontianak. Which the sun shines almost every year and rainforest around the rural area. West Borneo also known for having the longest river of Indonesia called Kapuas and it's reputation for the diversity of ancient Dayak tribes. We are currently residing in the land nearby Kapuas river where our family maintain several acres of self sustainable farm, poultry and fish. We are also runs a Futsal court where we can train our spirit and body regularly and swim after in the river nearby while enjoying Borneo finest sunset.
Both of us playing in a band together and we usually plays almost every weekend, a part of your work here will be helping us out with the band as roadie. Being a roadie doesn't mean that you have to have a technical knowledge or musical experience, in fact you're only helping us with the physical things. While you are in the band you'll also be a part of our movement and message to change the mentality of our people to made them more open minded and also spreading the peace all around Borneo. Another important thing for us is exposing how the palm oil industry is destroying our rare nature on Borneo. And if you're lucky you'll be on the road with us when we go on tour and explore the more hidden parts of West Kalimantan.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
The goal is to exchange our cultural experience between travellers and us. For example is Indonesia facing it's biggest challenge yet, where majority of it's people are still pretty close minded. Which is why we want you to come here and teach our people more about the world, and the millions of cultures in it.
We'll show you the different cultures present here in Pontianak, and show you what it is that we want to change. All the cultures here are very present, and it's easy to see the difference.
Pontianak is still not a very touristy town, therefore it's still rare to find white people, which is one of the reasons why we want to be a host for you. We want the people here to open their mind, and learn more about the world and the different ways to live. You'll see the more untouched Indonesian culture, from it's good and bad sides. One of the good parts is the culture from the old tribes, and we'll teach you about their culture and what we have learned from them. How they use the land and learned from the nature, and where it still exists today.
Some of the things we expect you to help out with, is feeding the fish and the birds. Helping out in our big garden, and exchange experiences and knowledge about farming, we are always willing to learn. It is normally our father who works in the garden, and he'll introduce you to the tasks.
Regarding the art project, it is not a must, but if you have a skill for drawing or painting we are big fans of art in our house, and have lots of parts that could use some decoration and colour. You will also be helping out with the band, when we go to play gigs.
We want to set up an english class for the kids in our neighbourhood, and help them to a brighter future. It is up to you how the class will go, it doesn't have to be a traditional class, the classroom won't be either. The goal is for the kids to have fun, get more confident and teach them about the world.
On the futsal court, you are very welcome to teach the kids some things if you have experience with futsal. If not they'll love it if you just go play with them and have fun. Before the kids arrive after school, you're gonna be helping the court keeper a little bit, the actual tasks we'll figure out when you arrive.
You're goin to stay in small-house at our backyard with AC and nature surrounding. The house is inspired by old Malay architecture with balcony and nice sunset spot. While you can eat food in our house which has wide variety of local Indonesian spices and recipe. You can also use my house to chill and spend time with my friend.
You're also very welcome if you want to use our house as you're base while you travelling around rural are of West Borneo. Since Pontianak is not very touristy place we recommend you to explore more of the island and experience the cultures. We can provide you with advise on where to go around West Borneo Province as we have travelled alot. Public is not common thing in Pontianak, but there is an Indonesian version of Uber and it's very easy and cheap as well.
