Description
Stay safe and healthy out there.
Hello potential guest(s).. We are be seeking some help around the house with different projects, big and small, cleaning, renovations, etc. Once the colder weather comes we look forward to hosting one or a travelling couple. Helping me with looking after, spending time with, and training my overactive and naughty puppy would be a bonus. :) I am still actively checking my messages so if you all want to book early that is more then welcome.
I am an amateur metal caster so if you wish to learn with me we can work together and make some interesting brass, copper, and aluminum casts. Bronze will come soon, though this is an outdoor hobby and very weather dependent.
Our guest must be a motivated yet relaxed person who can help 3-5 hours a day. Mon-Fri. Weekends are your own.
No couch surfers please.
I am a retired government employee, military and police. I am not affiliated with any organization. I live in an eighteenth century Victorian home that needs assistance in finishing projects so that I can enjoy it more. Can't wait to meet you. I have a dog. (We)

I have English teaching experience. :) I love Canadian history and culture. I have been doing this for years and have had great fortune and made many new friends.

General help around the house, and finishing started, but not yet complete, renovations. Interested persons must be self sufficient and able to cook their own meals. I provide all the food you can eat of course. :)
Canadian history is important to me and I would love to share what I know.
I have some projects for home eco upgrades that requires assistance with. I have lots of ideas yet not enough hours in the day. :)Languages spoken
English: Fluent

Room and board. A private bedroom, furnished. Share rest of common areas. Private 2 piece bathroom for our guests. We provide the food but you have to cook and eat it. :)
What else ...
Napanee is a small town and very quiet. Some local sights along the river. All manner of shopping within walking distance.
Perspective volunteers must be willing to share experiences of life and conversation. We have done this for a few years and feel that sharing our cultural experiences and values to be so very important and enlightening. Sure we all enjoy our private and quiet time but interaction is great as well.
Social drinking permitted. Smokers welcome but outside please. I am a smoker but always outdoors when guests are here.
Nearest airport is in Toronto. (Pearson) I would be happy to meet you in a nearby town (Belleville/Kingston) and drive you here and getting you back to a train/bus station for your departure. If you choose to fly in to Ottawa I can pick you up in Kingston. Also, as it turns out some buses and trains come to Napanee as well so if you can get one of those it will be a bonus.A little more information

I want to say with great confidence that it was an unforgettable time
Gavin never burdened us with work and always what we didn’t have time to do today could be done tomorrow without any problems.
I had a lot of free time and this allowed me to study English both with gavin and on my own, and of… read more

Gavin is a great host! He's very kind and has taught me a lot. His dog Froggie is great too, she loves to play!

My goodness. What a great experience to have you as a guest young lady. Sylvia is a very hard worker and used her initiative to go above and beyond. She learns quickly how to safely use power tools and asks questions that are appropriate in their safe use and to… read more
The work was a lot of fun. His house is very nice. We did nice things together.
Especially in the times of Covid it is a safe contact point. I wish Gavin all the best. I really enjoyed the time.
Thank you for everything :)
Folks, Penny is the cats pajamas to have had in our home. She was very conciencous (SP) and worked hard to complete those tasks given to here. There were times I had to beg her to stop as she was well past what we consider a days work. It was unfortunate that she let so soon as I both miss her and the… read more
My plan changed a bit and I ended up only staying at Gavin's place for one week. During my week, I raked, raked and raked more leaves, haha. It seems that the yard filled up with leaves as fast as I raked them. It's that time of the year, I guess. Very… read more
I stayed with Gavin for about 3 weeks, he was my last workaway placement and my first visit to Ontario.
I really enjoyed my time with Gavin, he was very welcoming and friendly. I felt very relaxed being in Gavin's home and he had a very chilled attitude. I did various jobs around the house from cleaning to painting the kitchen ceiling and… read more

I had a great time. Gavin was so nice. He tried to talk with me although he has been busy. Also, he always made me laugh. He has a good sense of humor. haha
He took me to a party with his friends and to the town council. It was so good.
Also, I sometimes took a walk with him and the nice dog. I miss him so much.

I would definitely recommend it as a good workaway experience.
Working with old items was a new and super experience for me, thank you for that.
Gavin
OUTSTANDING! Harder workers would be harder to find. You two have been so helpful that I have weeks of projects that can be crossed off my list of things to do. Christal is an artistic soul who has mastered cleaning centuries old ironwork and Graeme can do the same plus prepping antique wood projects. Due… read more
