We are two Belgian retired expats, having lived in East and South-East Asia, and East Africa. We now live on the countryside of Lot-et-Garonne, about 150 km from Bordeaux and 150 km from Toulouse. After finishing the main house and converting the barn into two appartments, our inspiration pulls us towards more mini-projects on our grounds. One of them is the conservation of a small ruine and creating there a little fantasy and technical environment, suited for kids and adults.
DIY and building projects
Our property is close to several medieval ‘bastide villages’, and three wine regions (Bordeaux, Bergerac, Cahors). The region was for a long time occupied by ‘the Black Prince’.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
The small ruine will need to be cleaned and strengthened, so that kids are safe there. After that there will be wood and metal contructions, and technical help as we are considering creating an interactive, friendly dragon to live on that ruine. If we could attract a stone-mason, we could also consider a ‘coat of arms’. For this project, we are focussing on 2nd week of September 2022.
Our two appartments can easily accomodate up to 7 people, and are each fully equiped with kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, and living area.
The airport of Bergerac is about 40 minutes away, and by TGV and local train visitors can reach Monsempron-Libos, which is about 20 km from our place. The area enables everything a beautiful countryside can offer (bicycle, walking, wine tasting…). Bordeaux and Toulouse are not too far away.
