We are the workaway team - a Spanish teacher and an English teacher - at the Montessori school near Landshut and Munich in Lower Bavaria, Germany.
We are looking for volunteers that want to help with children and support our teachers while gaining insight into Maria Montessori’s method of teaching. Our school is near Landshut and Munich, the compulsory school hours are from 08.00am till 1.00pm. Workawayers are also given the choice of staying on until 4.00pm. For those that do stay until 4.00pm, you will receive lunch in our organic canteen and then partake in your chosen afternoon activities before heading home.
The activities range from languages, musical instruments, sports and arts to yoga class.
Our school was founded twenty-five years ago and has continually grown from strength to strength.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
First and foremost; you will learn about the Montessori method of teaching. You will have first-hand experience of how it helps and influences students of all ages. You will learn how to assist in a classroom, and potentially; how to teach what you know to children and young people.
We offer the chance for a very strong cultural exchange between yourselves and us. You will have the opportunity to share your personality and your culture with a whole school of people and at least one family. You will have the opportunity to learn German customs and traditions, as well as those of Bavaria - the specific region where we are. You will experience the German language in both a teaching and a home setting, and we will mostly use English to communicate with you.
We do not recommend coming to us if you specifically want to learn German because we prefer our volunteers to speak English or Spanish with our children - especially if these are your native languages.
There are currently 250 scholars, aged between 6 and 17 from all walks of life! A few of our students have disabilities. We have 30 teachers at our school and 6 placement students that come for a year at a time.
We want to have volunteers for a number of reasons: it doesn’t just benefit our students, but also you as the volunteer. If you are not familiar with Montessori then please look into it before you apply to us, it would be a shame to come (so) far and not be able to identify with the Montessori methods. We are not looking for experts in anything, but you should be opened minded, love children, be outgoing and willing to have lots of fun! Generally our children return their positives experiences with amazing gestures. They are so open to learning - it’s a wonderful sight to see how well they grasp new people and opportunities.
From having native speakers of English and Spanish around; the children benefit immensely and have the chance to experience the languages first hand. Many of the children have learnt some English and are really enthusiastic when native speakers come to teach them or tell them about their culture and traditions from their homelands. With hands on experience the students retain more and get stuck in when it comes to cultural traditions - such as St. Patricks Day celebrations or trying real “Jamon”.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that gives you the freedom to provide you with insights, fun and fulfillment then you are looking at the right page here.
You will be asked to help the teachers, produce learning material (as requested by the teacher), supervise the children during their work, be involved in the sports class and arts. Perhaps you will also get the opportunity to go away with our students on a day-trip or longer excursion.
It is preferable that you can stay for a minimum of four weeks and then be open ended for as long and you can. We ask you to help a minimum of 20 hours at school over a four day period. A little household help, general housework, perhaps some babysitting or shopping with your host family is also very much appreciated.
We offer free accommodation with a host family (single room, shared bathroom, meals where requested).
Depending on the length of your stay, it cannot be guaranteed that you will spend your whole time with one host family. If you don’t happen to be on the same wave length as your host family then that’s not a problem; we can arrange that you move. One of our mottos is talk TO one another, not ABOUT one another.
You will be served a two course lunch from our organic canteen and all other meals at your host's table. Transport is generally at your own expense - except for the bus or train to reach the school. We also offer transfer to/from the nearest airport, if possible.
