I could have never asked for a better first Workaway experience. I was extremely nervous to travel internationally alone because I had never done it before. I was also concerned that I would not be able to communicate effectively with the family because I had never practiced my Spanish in such an immersive experience. However, this was one of the
… read more most amazing travel experiences I have ever had. Originally, Cecila and Angel wanted me to come to Spain in June or July. Unfortunately, this did not work for my schedule but they were EXTREMELY accommodating. They allowed me to go in May and completely changed their schedule so we could make something work. They were amazing tour guides and took me to many different places surrounding the area such as the zoo, dance classes, concerts, fitness classes, and more! I taught Delia and Eduardo English lessons after school and they were so amazing to teach. They both were eager to learn in many different ways and were extremely well-behaved. I loved getting to know them! The entire family was so understanding about the language barrier and excited about the opportunity to learn about the United States! The accommodations were so amazing, I had my own room and bathroom in a very private area of the house! It was extremely nice, and I felt very comfortable staying there. They also took me to the grocery store and allowed me to pick out things that I felt I needed! I would cook some of my own food, but usually Angel cooked amazing dinners for the family and it was so nice to be able to sit down and have conversations in both English and Spanish, discussing culture and current events! I genuinely loved staying with them so much and I hope that we will be able to stay in touch in the future. If you are someone who is nervous about going abroad, this is the PERFECT experience for you! This family is the kindest and most welcoming you will ever meet! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I really enjoyed staying in the family, they included the other volunteer and myself in everything from grocery shopping to village parties, and the setting is beautiful. Cecilia and Angel took the time and effort to make sure that I had everything I needed and that we understood each other. The kids are both endearing and full of personality. A

Angel and Cecilia made me feel very welcome in their house. I was treated as part of the family! Delia and Edu are both lovely and fun to spend time with! We did many things, like visiting local nearby villages, the pool, and the beautiful beaches. The house is in an idealistic village, surrounded by nature but also not so far from Santander City.
