MAY - OCTOBER. Hi - I am looking for the right person and native Spanish speaker, to join me this summer (May to October or for at least 2 month.) as my right-hand (or left-hand - I'm not fussy!) man or woman! It is a job for ONE person. The job is amazing (it was my dream years ago) but it does require someone with a very high level of social and language skills. Preferably someone who has taught languages, worked in tourism and is highly responsible and professional. THE JOB REQUIRES: Accompanying me walking in the hills speaking Spanish with guests. Some house and gardening tasks, light cleaning and help in the kitchen, shopping, etc. We have great food and meals and wine and music and cultural events that you are to be part of in this beautiful mountain paradise. A job which is also PERFECT for learning more English with my mainly British speaking guests. If you are asked to perform tasks that are not just in a supporting role and involve a high level of responsibility then i am, naturally, prepared to pay.
This suits a mature NATIVE Spanish speaking person with a very good level of English. Preferably someone with experience teaching, who loves the outdoors and a GENUINE interest in meeting and getting to know other people. Must have driving licence.
MORE ABOUT US:
Hello, we run a small family company based at a beautiful farmhouse in the Basque (Spanish) Pyrenees - based at the centre of some 200 km of circular walking routes (which I am constantly trying to maintain!). During the summer months we have guests here from all over the world: - house party style - they join us to walk the hills, to learn about the mountain Basque culture and at times to join one of our total immersion Spanish language programmes. So we are VERY used to having people here and, we would all agree (including my 15-year-old English/Basque/Spanish daughter) - that meeting so many people from different walks of life has greatly enhanced our own. (I came out to the Pyrenees 21 years ago with an idea, (dream), an old ford escort and a dictionary - and never really went back again!). I am English, (but have lived in France, Italy and Denmark) and now Spain. I am now enthusiastically learning Basque. I have also been an English teacher for many years and so, naturally, I am happy to help workawayers with their English too.
In the winter, when most guests go, I spend my time trying to maintain the house - as well as being mum (and the constant taxi-ing that involves when you live on top of a mountain!). We have a separate comfortable wing of the house where guests are lodged - with kitchen access etc..
What could this area offer you? It is perfect for walkers (with loads of circular walks from the door) and people who love nature and are interested in getting to know the unusual and very traditional mountain culture of the Basque people.

We have been international hosts of people from all around the world for almost 20 years and enjoy exchanging ideas on languages and culture and meeting people with fresh new perspectives on life. (I am also an English teacher so I can help guests with their English language too) . Naturally we will show our guests the area and introduce them to life and people in these Basque mountains so that they can make the most of the area. During the summer months you will find a great opportunity to improve your English skills and meet people from all over the world.
May to October: A companion to international groups of adults during mountain walks and general house / kitchen /gardening skills. You must have native Spanish-speaking skills but also speak good English and be an easy conversationalist with experience working with people of different backgrounds. Any strimming (desbrozar) and logging skills would also be appreciated!
November to May: Practical maintenance on the house / garden and computer. General cleaning. Woodwork, logging, some good cooking skills are always welcome!
Own bedroom and shared bathroom with access to kitchen, all house facilities. All food will be happily provided (although part of the duties may be to do the cooking and cleaning).
We live in an idyllic and friendly farming hamlet in the Spanish Pyrenees and we are just 1hr from San Sebastian and Pamplona and about 40 minutes from the white sand beaches of the Atlantic. Closer to home are lots of delightful Basque villages with great restaurants and a lively cultural calendar. Photographers and writers and artists would have a field day simply inspired by the views from the kitchen table! This is also a walkers or cyclists paradise.
We can drop our guests down to the village to get regular buses to San Sebastian and Pamplona . Volunteers are welcome to join me when i go out to the shops, to Irun etc. if you don't have your own transport.
During the winter time we do not often have many guests at the house - there is just the two of us but we are very friendly and you would be welcomed as part of the family - however, our farm in 4km from the village and quite isolated so guests with a car or driving licence may feel a little more in connected. In the summer we have international guests and can offer a lively, fun and stimulating environment.
